BR = breath controller i.e. MIDI CC #02.
BTW: I hope to answer all such questions in advance, in the little manual that comeswith the soundset / ZebraHZ. Still working on it... time presses.

Mind = Blown :-o :shock:

I've been on the fence about doing this since I'm already planning on getting Zebra 3, but paying to just study these presets is really tempting.

I've assigned it to the crossfader of my Edirol PCR-500 and it works really well! 8)

Yeah. It brings some philosophical questions though. Will there ever be call for string emulation in Hollywood score music? Should be? :)

Maybe when the string emulations become convincing and their output is as rich and nuanced as it's real counterpart yet able to take that further (just as the analog emulations are taking the old sounds to new places), but, in that case you'll need a suitable controller to control those nuances (either that or 10 modwheels!), so maybe something like, I don't know, a midi violin or something :)

Being able to play a whole string section with one bow must be a violinist's dream :hihi:

I'm more interested in sounds where someone says "what if we could do..." rather than another attempt to fully emulate a real instrument. The presets in DZ that interest me the most are the ones that do pseudo-reverse reverb and other wild tricks with combs and resonant sweeps, SB modules and the like.

I'll be learning tricks from this soundset for years.

Fantastic stuff Howard. Probably the most entertaining synth video I've ever seen (heard).
Sendy wrote:Being able to play a whole string section with one bow must be a violinist's dream :hihi:
Yes. The closest I've heard is L. Shankar playing two necks simultaneously. That instrument (his creation) has the full range from contrabass to violin (and beyond, since he can play exceptionaly high with great precision).

Well, seeing as Hans Zimmer can get the REAL DEAL for his soundtracks, there hasn't been much call for string emulations. Must admit I'd like to give it a go if and when I get a decade or two to spare!
I've been trying for a little bit now, with not much success. I wind up using multiple instances of the same patch, each with slight variations in unison to get anything I'm happy with.
...But wow, if you haven't tried this yet, Howie, I'd love to see what you came up with! :hyper:

Concerning the HZ soundset:
I always wondered what that awesome cape swooshing sound was that I liked so much in the first movie. I thought maybe it was manipulated samples of someone swooshing a sheet around or something. :hihi: ...Now I've been enlightened. :)
It really is a beautiful bank, and it just breathes with the essence of the movies it was made for.

Oh, and by the way, I'm getting a kick out of some of the patch names.
Now I'm going to have to go through the movies to find out what "cat chanel" was used for.

I fully agree. Great work HS & HZ!

Excellent trailer indeed. BTW, I think you created a monster in the Instruments (random pick DZ winner) forum thread. These final hours will be the time of ridiculous one-liners, in order to get more lots into the pot. Best of luck sorting that ;)
