They are not in similar stages, even the prize is split like it... only 10% for soundware. ...and sample packs or patch banks take huge amounts of time to create! ..and reasonable amount of effort too.

IMO, sample packs / sound sets can be as important but can't be compared with plugins of course.

If you don't have sounds to work with, you can't put a plugin on top, simple as that... not to mention all the time and effort they save you for finding or creating or skill to play a certain something (loops or midi) ...

If you were also referring to the Reaktor stuff or similar, I think we can agree that they can't and shouldn't be considered soundware because they are clearly something else.

Yes I was not implying at all that a good sample pack is easy to create. Its just the comparison between the two.
I put it this way; Even a really bad vsti is difficult to build. A good one is something special. Its the difference between being a racecar driver and building racecars. There are many drivers, many races, many cars. But, not so many people turning out new models of cars.

Yeah it is split up and thats good. I would just not like to see a situation where someones "regular old" 2 OSC synth is getting no attention at all, while something like a sample pack of randomized Synplant sounds gets +1s for being accessible and 'crazy'. Not that that would be bad for the community. It just doesnt feel like the right vibe for a "DC". I mean, I think we also do not want to see forty sound pack entries and five plugins...

Don't worry, I assume that would be the other way around.

Well, it's more like the KVR vibe.. but dunno.. I'm happy with the soundware idea and looking forward on what will ppl come up with... might be something totally new! :)

Simply, Reaktor ensembles are plugins that work directly in only one host, but, that host itself is a VST plugin which works in many other hosts.

So, how are the sample sets coming along? :D

anyone done a set yet?

I'm thinking of doing a mixed bank for some freeware synth plugins

I would like to do it for pc and mac

does someone know how I can convert the patches from pc to mac?
or can anyone help me in doing it?

and I don't have a mac :-(

nothing so far.. but as soon as I'll have a "great" idea.. I'll be working non-stop I guess.

pc vs mac .. well, depending on what synth you'll use but in general, the patches should load just fine on whatever platform if the synth supports, no?

bullshit; they're no more that than a sysex file is a synth that works directly in the hardware it gets sent to, or a .xls file does its own sums.
An idiot on Set Theory:

 I have no idea.. didn't saw anything about any size limit.
...in that case I suggest setting "limit" in order not to bore ppl with too much and also to have enough so that the pack feels chunky when held :D

Post

I didn't see any limit for the size either,
but I think a ...gigabyte library might be a bit too much
when some thousend peeps wanna download it

but what do I know :?
