Indeed, that's the original Italian roots of the genre.

However, when italo disco migrated to other European countries, it transformed itself a bit. Stock/Aitken/Waterman could be regarded as Italo disco, so could pure melodical versions like Koto and Laserdance:

Gotta love that bass (Casio CZ-101)...
While I wouldn't call Stock/Aitken/Waterman "Italo Disco" but rather "Euro-Pop", this Koto video really sounds like Italo Disco. :)

Here's one of my favorite Italo Disco artists, Gazebo:

(Just laughed my **ss off because of this typical funny strange 80ies video...)

We're talking genuine Italo roots and nobody has posted this one yet :uhuhuh:

I guess if you really wanted to make Italo Disco, you'd need at least 500 % reverb for every track...

May the OP have mercy with me, I have to post this video from Pietro Paolo Pelandi in 1983, it sounds 200 % Italo Disco, this typical reverb-drunken plastic sound:

Waldorf PPG Wave for the more digital sounds. If you're looking for a cheap deal, the 2.V version is included in the "Waldorf Edition" bundle:

"Italo Disco" has many styles,i prefer this...pre-house style.
Many plugins can emulate this style.

The video in the first post sounds like 90's ebm arpeggiator trance.

I bet vanguard was used for the main line in that first one.

Post

I dunno, man.

The first song in OP sounded pretty awesome, and usually '90s EBM arpeggiator trance sounds like total garbage.

The effects should probably be your focus. Most synths will get you there if you have good chorus, reverb, and distortion plug-ins.

thanksa lot mates well i thought maybe stuff like ARTURIA would fit etc? i mean sure mostly any vst can do all sorts of music :D but are there maybe some nice preset collections for vsts where you can learn and try to vary the presets to get to know what sound structure you have to focus on?
as those sounds are kinda similar in the genre!

and if it's no italo disco (i see what your points are) what would you call this genre?

Arturia and GForce are probably good bets. Also Korg.

Diva and Synth Squad have some retro third-party soundsets.

I'm pretty sure I hear some Prophet 5 in the first video of the original post. Arturia Prophet V is a common substitute.

I thought it sounded like 90's EBM arpeggiator trance mixed with a John Carpenter soundtrack.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Maybe "Nu Hi-NRG"?

+1 for the Arturia and Korg synths. :)
