Wasn't Winamp free? Why would NI want to buy something that they'd have to give away?

Don't think I saw anything about it on the Reaper forums, not sure which Cockos person(s)were behind it.

Just says:

Justin Frankel, Dmitry Boldyrev and Gianluca Rubinacci...

So I don't think that Justin Frankel programmed Winamp alone...

Milkdrop2 is now an open source program, it can be editer and adapted for any program with flexible sound output.

That would make more sense than a commercial company buying a non-niche product that isn't part of their core business.

stuff shipped off to open source stuff all goes to crap. LMMS compared to any pay daw? Tux Guitar compared to Guitar Pro. OpenOffice compared to Windows Office?

I've noticed that quite a number of shoutcast stations have dissappeared (unfortunately not alex jones)following winamps notification. I prefer listening to shoutcast on my android phone. I like that the winamp ui connects to the shoutcast site where I can browse radio stations.

I also like winamp on my computer over VLC / win media etc also because of the shoutcast browser.

If anything a media company should by winamp, reskin it (winamp plays streaming videos too) and redistibute it. Somebody like (don't kill me) Clear Channel. They could expand thier market without having to buy out radio stations.

Should Native Instruments buy Winamp
