What's stopping you from saving the Winamp installer for as long as you want to use it? Why does it need to be updated?

The only thing I'd miss is MilkDrop.

It's the most fun, lysergic, headbending, mindmelting autovisuals system I've ever come across, but it only works (properly) with WinAmp.

tracktor dj is a dj program, winamp has masses of music visualisations inc milkdrop. and a loyal fanbase.

vlc is for lamers try media player classic.

winamp has 1000ds of skinds and generates 1000ds of users of traffic and adverts.

+1 -- I haven't felt the need to try other similar programs but I do like milkdrop. As far as I know there is nothing like it (free!)...a great example of what a community can do when given the freedom to create -- like what our patch designers do for free synths

At some point in the complete original article it is said that IUMA (Internet Underground Music Archive) is being revived:

I was a member there once (didn't like mp3.com). I wonder if the old accounts will be restored -- the site seems to be at a very early stage of (re)construction -- http://www.iuma.com. Anyone knows anything more about this?... just curious...
As for WinAmp, yes it's a shame it goes away, especially for Milkdrop -- I still use it a lot -- Best free visualizations ever!
