Some futuristic mayhem using two new patches:

I really need to get this.

I will at some point.

Sonically, and I might be wrong, but I don't think there is anything I couldn't do with this and Blue II.

Bells, FM, Bass, Pads, Evolvers, Weird, Plucked, Vocal Choir. Analog oomph.

A man could go to his Desert Island and only have these two synths, and be able to do anything. In fact there is a reason we probably don't see synths like this in one synth challenge. Now, THAT would be interesting, wouldn't it?

But Blue has a silly amount of presets so I am not in need to buy more for that. Spectral just has a ridiculous amount, so room for a few more.

I just love the work that you do Simon. In a way it would feel like cheating because there is a little bit of you contained in all of them. But still, I wouldn't feel any guiltier than I do when I nick a Loopmasters Hip Hop beat that came with me Energy XT2.

When I get my shit together and I get my music out there, I'd credit you along with people like Daniel from Westgate Sounds. Bit more kudos, few more sales. I wouldn't do that for everyone, but it would assuage my guilt.

Anyway, astounding work as always. You really have made a name for yourself in the field of sound design.

Have some flowers!

It's funny, but Rob and Peter have just made it full circle and turned it all around again. I honestly can not think of two other VST makers that provide this level of quality both in the presets and the software itself. Here we are. 10 years on. With respect to Jon Ayres too who codes Rob's synths.

I know they are competitors now. But they both seem to be thriving and as healthy as Lions. I'm out of the VST synth buying business now. Sorry. I'm going to support small devs and talented sound designers. Deconstruct their work. See how they do it. Learn my software. I'm still just pushing that button and seeing what that does. But with patches like yours, you make it so easy!

Edit:
It's also a bit weird that I have been listening to Dub/Dark Side of the Moon while writing this post, and just noticed it.

Post

Just read the rest of the thread.

I honestly was just listening to Dark side of the moon and only got here halfway through. Weird but true. You can't plan stuff like that. It just happens and most the time we don't notice. This time I did. Barely.

As for the prism rip off shit. Good. No one should be able to copyright or own an IDEA. For that is what it is.

Do we say that Storm/Sturm wtf he's called ripped off Sir Isaac? No. We don't. It's a concept. It is free range. Like the chickens. Roaming around. For anyone to pluck. Er, are you still with me here? :-)

Clucking bell.

Public domain. No kopyright.

Ah Huh ah huh Ah Huh ah Huh!

Justified!

Man, thank you for chiming in and for presenting me those flowers. I'll stick 'em on the cinema display :)
The more time I spend with Spectral, the more I'm amazed by it's versatility. I don't know Blue, but Spectral for me was THE release of last year when it comes to non-sample based instruments. We just seriously need a larger Modmatrix, but I think they're working on this. It would be in the package for my desert island for sure, together with HALion 5, MachFive, RX3, Molekular, B2 and GRM tools.

I do consider sound designing as composing sounds, so there is indeed some of my musical aesthetics in every patch I make, but that counts for all designers who go beyond the task of replicating sounds which have been done to death.

Thank's again.

Have a word with Peter. He's a pretty private guy. But a very receptive one. I'm sure he would accommodate any requests you might have. You are doing quite a bit for pushing Spectral into the public arena after all.

I really need to take stock. It's been a wild couple of years. But the music I want to make has just not got made. And I am grepping around on synths, unable to do the most basic of stuff. When I hear you go off on one, it is truly inspiring. On more than one level. Sure, the sound, of course. But it sounds like 'Man melts with Machine'. I would bet there is a German word for that, that describes it perfectly. Alas in English...

Also, you really need to check out the illbient scene if you didn't before. The stuff you do is highly reminiscent of what they were/are about. It's mainly a New York scene, but is spread all over the world. I can't pay you a higher compliment than that.

At some point, I will check out your music too. I don't really do that with other people. It's not easy being an egotistical monomaniac, though I do my best - nearly as good as most other people, in fact. But I'm actually interested in what you could come up with. For now, your doodlings seriously whetted my appetite.

If you locked a man in a room for a thousand years and only let him have Spectral and Blue as his synths, there would be no torture in that. He would just laugh. And say 'just let me get on with it then'. You'd have to give him a drum machine too of course, or he would go insane. Man can not live by bread alone.

I'm listening to Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd as we speak. Rick Wright is just a genius. You can take your Vangeli and whatnot and shove them up your arschlock! :-) What was he using? Synthia or something VCS3? Anyway.

Today we have impOSCar2 and Spectral and Blue.

We are the truly blessed children.

On those dark lonely nights.
That do not make a sound.
I have you. I have me.
We have the electronics.
Making waves go 'round.

I already posted in his forum a few months ago but I guess the updating needs time and they have quite a few products to do maintenance for.
Yeah, man melts with machine pretty much describes my life as a musician, composer and sound designer. I learned both sides, playing/learning only acoustic instruments at the start as young boy, then getting into synths at the age of 9, then doing both worlds all of my life.

Thank's, will do!

I don't have the time and freedom of mind to listen to other people's music, sometimes, but rarely, so I understand that. Also I have done so many different things in my life, from modern classical, to jazz, to improvised abstract, to fusion, to big band stuff, to pop, to funk to new age, to composing for orchestra and chamber ensembles - I wouldn't really know what exactly my music is. What I do know is that the combination of acoustic instruments with electronics is the thing fascinating me the most.

I had all vinyl records of Pink Floyd when I was a teenager, I listened to them on heavy rotation, alternating with Frank Zappa, Chick Corea, Herby Hancock, Santana, Genesis, Kool&The Gang, Strawinsky, Beethoven, my father's music and whatnot....

I should check Wright's gear list from those years, that should be interesting. He is a great inspired creator for sure!

I absolutely agree...
