Do you have a network surrounding you that understands you and shares your passion for music, sound nerding, synth tweaking or whatever - or are you travelling alone?

Is your wife or kids or friends part of this?

Do they care?
yes

yes, it's called KvR

no

yes my family and friends care, but I think mostly these people care more about the fact that music is my passion and when I am making music I'm okay.
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

No

Oh they care.

All alone here. Sometimes I wish I could find some other bad musicians to collab with.

Utterly alone and hating it. Both personally and artistically.

Online social connections aren't enough, and none of my online connections are musicians.

Musically yes.
My wife thinks my guitars look cool but the keyboards/audio gear does nothing for her.

I'm tired of being insane. I'm going outsane for some fresh air.

Not sure if serious thread or not, but;

1) No. It's not my world. I'm only passing through.

2) No. But I have a network of friends and family who I can do other things with, thankfully.

3) Depends on the project. Though it's very easy to make new friends through music.

4) Some of them try to humour me occasionally.

Indeed! I'm also quite alone in this too but not lonely.

Wife knows that I do something about creating sounds but doesn't really care, sometimes I spare my sound thoughts with her but I could as well speak to a wall  not that she isn't supportive, she just don't understand. My two daughters are still very young (6 and 9) the oldest inherited my creativity, she is painitng and likes to experiment with music mostly on her iPad.

Got plenty of friends with who I share a passion for listening to all sorts of music, going to concerts etc. but when it comes to designing sounds it's gets too nerdy for most and that's where I'm alone - I guess that part of the sound world doesn't invite to collaborations the same way as playing music together in a band does.

My wife claimed to be my biggest fan when we were first getting together. But my music got weirder. She'll listen to some of it, and like some percentage of that. But that's about it.

Basically I just make stuff and put it out there, and every once in a while I see some appreciative comments. One of my tracks for FAWM last year got picked up by a podcast and people seemed to dig it.

Pretty much alone. Was in a band a few years ago. It was a shitty, shitty band, and the local rock band circuit was horrible, full of egos and shitty personalities. But I miss the jamming. It wasn't even really my kind of music. I can relate to anything at a push. It's all the same thing with different clothes and preferences. Music is all just one big rotted note :hihi:

I've worked with people in the past. I used to make drum'n'bass with my brother (until his bullying drove me away). Before that I made experimental music with a best friend (before he turned into an abusive twat). I'm the kind of artist that's getting 1200956 ideas a minute and that can be hard to keep up with and make sense of in a single track. I've learned to be ruthless and throw out the other 1200948 ideas that don't quite go with what I'm doing, but being able to filter all of this through someone else's input and tastes is always exciting to me.

I'd love to do something a bit more mainstream and performable with a likeminded friend. Something like Plaid that we could take out and have fun with. Friends are few and far between these days, though, let alone friends who are talented at music and have similar or complimentary tastes...

People appreciate what I do, but I struggle to find other musicians to sit down and play music with.

Before we moved here I knew a lot of people who wanted to play and get bands together, but here it seems limited to bluegrass, southern rock and hip hop.

The symbol represents the sound, "Aum".
Also called the sound of one hand clapping, the eternal sound, the sound which is there in the universe all the time.

The union of all within sound.

just me n the cat here
occasionally i miss people, then i spend time with people and realise it was a mistake and being alone doing my own thing was far more enjoyable and relaxing.

musically im pretty much alone here in the real world as most of the other musically minded folk around here are in to classic rock type things. theres a few who are in to the heavier end of things which is ok for listening sessions but i plug my equipment in and usually its "oh, you do dance music?"
so i tend to avoid such gatherings anymore.
not that i have an issue with dance music, im just bored with explaining things to people who cant see past my knobs into the possibilities.

(happy xmas mike, i think theres a couple in there you can have fun with :hihi: )

When it comes to the music I make, my wife appreciates most of it, but she likes the pop songs that I wrote back in the 90s more than the rest of it.

I feel lucky, actually. I don't think I could live with someone who thinks of music as being a handful of songs she used to like back in her school days.
I would really have a problem with a gf/wife that liked different music than I do. Which is also why age difference is usually a problem, young people just don't listen to the music I grew up with.

A different race, ethnic group, language, religion, or nationality? No problem at all, but someone who likes Metal or Opera would be a deal breaker :hihi:
