Are you alone?

I wonder, are you alone in your world of sound?
Do you have a network surrounding you that understands you and shares your passion for music, sound nerding, synth tweaking or whatever - or are you travelling alone?
Is your wife or kids or friends part of this?
Do they care?

In the immediate family my daughter is probably the one who "joins me" most in "musical activities". She often sings on my music, and we actually battled it out yesterday with singstar. Her brother plays a little guitar but I think it's more for impressing girls, he likes music a lot but it's not a drive like it is for me. We've made a few projects for fun though, always in styles out of my comfort zone. Their mum had a great voice and plays bass quite good but since we split up we don't work together with music.
Otherwise mostly I'm alone when working in the studio, but I've always had a "small network" of musicians (guitarists and singers mostly) come in and help out once in a while, but the network have changed over time.
I also have a few friends I play the 20 song game with, each at our own location. We're in different cities but near enough to meet after.

Being alone is quite different from being lonely

My wife is very passionate about music, and even though we each don't like much of the music the other one listens to, we also have a lot of music in common.
When it comes to the music I make, my wife appreciates most of it, but she likes the pop songs that I wrote back in the 90s more than the rest of it.
I feel lucky, actually. I don't think I could live with someone who thinks of music as being a handful of songs she used to like back in her school days.

My wife is not a musician, but she is totally supportive of my music. My son is taking in interest in audio and video production. And, I collaborate with many singers, old band mates, a few local friends, etc. So, no, I am definitely not alone.

Everyone is always alone. The only thing that connects people is the tenouous link of communication, what Laurie Anderson called "the tightrope".
Whether it's made out of sound, or words, or paint - or even touch - it always fails.
