selling on ebay advice

Last item I sold on eBay was a major hassle and a loss of money. I sold an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O, in mint condition, to some big dude down south. He complained about things not working and I tried to help him out with it. His communication skills sucked ass. He eventually admitted he was trying to use the thing on a PPC Mac, which M-Audio never supported beyond beta on drivers with this device. I never made any claim as to its support. I posted the info straight from M-Audio and it didn't include PPC in the system specs. Eventually he filed a return complaint with eBay that the item was not as advertised (bullshit!), rather than keep working with me directly to get the situation resolved. He sent the thing back with the stop button requiring a harder push than it used to, the jog wheel feeling tighter, and the optical sockets' dust plugs missing. eBay gave him a full refund, including shipping! I lost over $120 on the whole situation from shipping and eBay fees. I appealed to eBay and was given a brief runaround that ended up ending in no change. I had proof that the guy was bullshitting by simply comparing the claims he made with his emails and my posting. They didn't care and ruled not to overturn the decision. I managed to dig up an actual phone number and complained to a customer service person who did nothing for me.

eBay will always side with buyers. They want to ensure eBay has a buyer reputation of total satisfaction. Sellers are screwed to satisfy buyers. Most of eBay's sellers these days are businesses, not individuals. They can absorb losses. Individuals can't. Sellers are expendable to eBay but buyers aren't.

Sell your music gear through KVR or GearSluts. Take the usual precautions.
