Hello all,
I have an emu SP1200 that I want to sell on ebay. It's been years since I've sold on ebay. I've read so many horror stories regarding the sellers getting screwed over.
Any advice on selling a big ticket item on ebay?
Thanks,
dw

maybe I'll try and sell it here. Plus I better move this thread. looks like a KVR bot thinks I"m trying to sell something
That being said. Anyone who is interested, hit me up.

I'll move it to Everything Else; I'm sure others will chime in with advice.
If you decide to try selling it here, go ahead and start a thread in the Marketplace.

I've changed my mind more than once recently regarding selling on eBay for the following reasons:
1. Prices for used equipment seem to currently be relatively low to go through the usual eBay hassles and fees.
2. Shipping is still too high despite the recent drop in crude. eBay would like you to absorb those yourself, of course...
If the item is in relatively high demand (which at eBay requires checking recent completed transactions rather than current listings) and is not too heavy to ship then it may still be worth giving it a try.

all sold listings go for over 2,000. Shipping wouldn't be bad in the US. less than 50.
I'm more concerned about getting ripped off.

Yeah, that makes sense. Maybe some KVR members who've sold items in that price range will chime in. It's always good to have eBay as an option, even if one ends up selling the stuff by some other means.

I sold a Roland 700 not long ago and a receptor. No problems with either sale. The rule is don't ship until you get paid; it's really quite simple. Insist on terms of sale to get insurance and tracking. I did say no sales outside North America...I realize that could be interpreted as rude and I got some very insistent emails from one gentlement in central Africa who wanted me to change my policy, but perhaps irrantionally I felt there were less likely to be odd problems limiting sales to within my continent.

the scare for me is as follows, and I wonder how to protect against this.
I ship an item, it arrives and the buyer says that it's broken or doesn't work as advertised.
then paypal refunds the money, but I don't get the item back...so I'm out the money and the item.
any one know how to avoid that?

totally shocking, the guy sold an elektron machine drum and the buyer did all sorts and then made claims, even sent the item back with a f**k you note left under the casing, see pics in one of the page topics. ebay is indeed dodgy for selling expensive gear, some mug tried it with me at christmas claiming broken item and would i agree to a partial refund, when i asked him to return it he said on the other hand it's not that bad a problem however there was no problem to begin with, have a read at the link i posted though, weird stuff from the buyer yet the seller lost out.

This is the best advice, don't sell international. I've been screwed by some guy in Malaysia for a simple 10$ item. I think they are people in those countries who makes a business by buying items on eBay and then ask for a refund when they've got their item.AnalogGuy1 wrote:I sold a Roland 700 not long ago and a receptor. Personally, I would limit myself to US, Canada and Europe (places where you can track the package).
