Just to clear up the last comment, it does do synths and effects. I think the last comment of not doing synths was only about the MB-7 mixer.

Yes this is exactly correct! Patchwork pretty much *exactly* what the OP is looking for. It's actually a pretty great concept!

I just find MB-7 to be pretty fun to use and thought I'd give it a mention - but MB-7 needs the disclaimer of FX only.

when using this type program we guitarists need to switch presets with our feet so it has to recognize the stepping on a pedal and then enable instant patch change at a very fast speed. The point we need to be aware of is this, it is easy to just create a chain of FX and recall it by using templates in your daw but what we want is preset switching capability and the ABILITY TO USE IT LIVE, this issue also requires we have the chain loaded in the background but no sound is going to it or midi in case it is a synth chain. In some daws they have this capability I think mainstage in Logic is such a program.

Forte and Cantabile also do this.

Revalver supposedly has the ability to load other VST in its chains and it will integrate with foot pedals.
