This is of course a valid point... I thought I could get away with having the user to edit the INI file for individual controller assignments, but then I lifted my lazy butt and decided to add a MIDI learn function to Kern. Of course the learned controller assignments can be stored back to the INI.

It says in the manual that you had to limit the number of controls, which makes sense. But I am not so sure about some decisions, like three knobs for chorus alone, while there is no release control for the filter envelope 8) The really good chorus on Tal's U-NO-LX does not have any knobs, just two buttons. Just saying because the filter envelope release is an important control that can make the difference between boring and funky :hihi:

I know, I know it is freeware... ;)
I suppose it will be picked for one of the next OSC's :)

Post

Yes, seems odd, but the little knobs are kind of "hidden" controls that usually are not mapped to hardware controls. I could have added a similar knob for Release but I didn't :)

Oh, I see. If it is about priorities, I suppose I would have made the filter velocity knob a minor one (like the amp velocity knob; at least with me velocity knobs are "set and forget" :hihi: ) and the filter env release a major one :)

Anyway, now go and do Deputy or Blooo for a controller - Kernschmelze, so to speak :hihi:

Thanks for another fine synth :tu:

In 'Mono" mode, only the first note sounds when playing a legato passage.

x64 in Reaper

Mono non-legato is throwing me a bit - the filter envelope only seems to retrigger once it's completed its decay phase.
Is this intentional?

(And while I'm here: excellent concept, great sound [as ever] - thank you!)
None of the really dumb people I knew when I was young are young any more.

Still don't get the advantage over the old way of learning MIDI to controls in regular synths.

I'm sure there is one otherwise Björn wouldn't have coded Kern but I'm obviously too dumb to check it. :help:

Wow, good catch! No, it's indeed a bug, and not easy to see... Thanks for the heads up!

Hmmm, I couldn't reproduce that here (Reaper64 too). Maybe you refering to the same problem as above? In this case I'll fix that asap.

Could you drop me a PM or email about what confuses you? I tried to implement MIDI Learn the standard way - or at least what I think would be the standard way... 8)

Thanks a lot guys! :tu:
