Well as far as the eq goes between DMG, Fabfilter, & Toneboosters. A surgical eq is just that, an eq that is sterile and adds absolutely no artifacts in your mix, so $20 for an eq that does the same thing as the $100 one is a no brainer to me.ronnyrydgren wrote:Better quality? How? Do you refer to colored sound as better quality or what is better quality? Fabfilter have quality to it and really high! But fabfilter plugins are very neutral and do sound very uncolored and transparent! I am just curious, first time ive heard anybody say fabfilter quality is worse then toneboosters or stillwell! You might mean a tonal sound that you like better but actually im really Lost about your statementHamHat wrote:I love fabfilters de-ess and gate. But for master tools I use a lot of toneboosters and stillwell. Better deal, better quality imo.
Comparing the compressors between DMG, Fabfilter, & Stillwell. I judge on the character the compressors adds which I referred to as quality of course this is completely subjective. I find that the compressor that DMG & Fabfilter offer are a bit more on the sterile side which is great if that's what you need, however the majority of time I want a little character in my mix so I will grab Major Tom or the Rocket to add that edge. And if I need a bus compressor my first pick is always Bombardier, that compressor is something else. Not to mention you could get all those plug ins that do different jobs for the same price as one of their compressors.
Fabfilter and DMG make great plug-ins that do their jobs well but for the price I spent on them and how often or lack there of i use them, I think Stillwell, Toneboosters, and Klanghelm offer better mixing/mastering products for a better price.
