After updating, I get an error when I try and access my Max instruments:

"Failed to resolve the link to BrowseLibraryPresets:/Instruments/Max Instrument/Classic Synths by Katsuhiro Chiba"

same for all the instruments I try and load like monolake granulator etc...

anyone know why this might be?

You're not wrong. Support for XP (and Vista) has been dropped with 9.2
I just ordered a new laptop from Scan Computers ...

Did you update MAX to max 7 ?

Yes I did, well, I downloaded it from the site and it was just the Max 7 app, which I put in my Max folder in Applications and renamed the folder to Max 7 and updated the path in Live Preferences. Not sure if that is the correct way to do it...

Seems to be the correct way, although, since Max apparently is one app now (instead of a bunch of files in a folder) I planted it Appplications folder directly and adjusted the path in the preferences of Live.
Works for me though (OS X 10.10).

You have to install it ...

Depends if you're using Win or Mac I guess, Mac is mounting the .dmg, and copying the Max.app in the Aplications folder.

I'm on Mac and re-installed Max 7 package directly to Applications and reset path and I still get the same error message.

Weird, works for me. As a temporary workaround, you could try with the old (6.x.x) version of Max. I have used that with the 9.2 beta without problems. Might be worth a shot. If you don't have it anymore, you can download it here: https://cycling74.com/downloads/older/
I think it would be best if you would report it to Ableton, so they can fix this in an update.

Its been a while since Ive been on them, but have the ableton forums completely died? For a release that fixes an issue that people have been screaming about for years, there are all of 2 9.2 threads, none of which talking about pdc compensation. Just seems very odd

Honestly? It may be that a big deal of that PDC issue was in the minds of people. Not that it didn't exist, it was a real problem, I just think people were less effected than they thought. Now that it's mostly addressed, it's not really that exiting, because well, Live still does what it always did.
