OK, back to the chase after vacation.
the problem: newly recorded midi tracks jump ahead when recording is stopped.
Since they move AHEAD, this isn't a latency problem, since latency is essentially time lag or delay, or am I wrong?
So, what is the cause of this rather peculiar problem???? Audio recordings aren't jumping ahead...
the loopback test suggested by #chico.uk resulted in longer time between keystroke and sound production.
my tracks move on their own!

I'm not sure what you're doing here, but the loopback test literally has nothing to do with the time between you pressing a key and sound being generated. It's just not what it does. It compensates for that latency by moving the audio you recorded forwards or backwards in the track, depending on whether it's a negative or positive value.
It doesn't do anything real time, when you press a key, that's handled by the audio buffer setting on your soundcard.
