Same thing in the Bitwig Drum Instrument

In that case Studio One has the same. It also has a mute tool to mute specific notes in the piano roll.
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

Not really, S1 has nothing like this at all as far as i can tell, lanes with Solo/Mute/Edit/Visibility/Record enable

Like i said, probably the most advanced one hahaha, as per typical Reaper, once set up it has the best of most things, but once you have set it up the song you wanted to write has long gone and now you feel like writing a manual hahaha

you're a little bit late to the party! hail REAPER for having a painful workaround for every lacking feature...

I tried installing the demo of Ableton live 9 but it tells me my demo has expired.

You can do that in Cubase:

TheoM wrote:Kraznet I didn't mean all at once LOL.. i meant they are the tools I use but rarely together..

My kick drum i ALWAYS metrum and always on it's own track.. that one is easy.

Then i usually have a loop here or there (as drums is my one compositional weakness even after 25 years) - but when i ADD litle bits of my own here and there, i just mean i use the onboard sequencers as all my drum plugins have them.

For example.. last song i used 2 drum loops, metrum kick, and made a couple of fills and breaks in idrum.. as well as a percussion line.. using the gazillion (all legit) samples I have. Once i had made the bits i was happy with, i then dragged the midi from idrum into the piano roll - there were 3 extra sequences of my own total, and I was able to place them and do midi effects (and processing) on them, wherever and whenever I like. Cause i had already created the stuff, in time, in rhythm to my main track (and drum loops) , IN idrum itself, i was satisfied with just the normal logic matrix editor after that (piano roll). Really at the end of the day, you can do whatever you want in the piano roll if further editing is required.

The song before, i used metrum for kick,of course, and no loops, but 4 microtonic sequences of my own (ok i admit one of them was a preset ) - 4 multi out instances of microtonic, and again i had programmed them all in microtonic.. I also use microtnic pattern chaining and basically would trigger what i wanted, when i wanted, with one midi note corresponding to the relevant pattern, in logic's piano roll.

It's all really easy IMO.. cause the only way i have any hope in making decent drums is to use a step sequencer.. My ex partner was the master of doing all original drum parts, sound by sound, via midi KB, but alas, we no longer write together, as he started a family and has moved on to doing only video production..
So I had to adapt to my own way.

I think i have used idrum and metrum and microtonic once or twice all toegther, but usually i always have drum loops of some kind, usually. As a base so i can get off to a solid start.

I think perhaps maschine might be really good for someone like me, so will investigate it next time i have some money.

But right now, i do not play drums via KB at all. I even play my own arps LOL, manually, but no drums. I play all my chords, melodies, bass, etc.. just not drums.. i program them

PS - my move to cubase was only a few weeks ago and then another jump to PT.. I am focusing on learning PT above all at present.. Logic has been my overall main daw for more than 2 decades, but hopefully i will be able to adopt a new method of drum programming. In Cubase and PT i have a chance to start all fresh in this regard.. and if PT hadn't come along as a purchase, i would have been spending plenty of time in Cubey doing so. After 2 decades of faithful service, i am winding down my logic use to basically zero.. and yes, I am without a doubt, still staying on mac, even though Logic is no longer my main daw :)
Thanks for clarifying that Theo.

I agree it's possible to do drum programming in the piano roll and many do. I've manually programmed in many drum parts myself but preferred to use the Samplitude drum editor. But I also enjoy having the option to play them in on the keyboard. I'm also getting a TrapKat XL soon which is like a 24 pad percussion controller. It's good to have something to physically hit. But I guess with your back problems it's not an option and the TrapKat aint cheap either.

It's been a slow and painful divorce from Logic from what I can tell but it's good you settled on Cubase and ProTools. I have Logic Pro X on my Mac partition and still dabble with it occasionally but I'm much faster working in Samplitude although I'm sure I could get back up to speed in Logic if I put my mind to it.What made you finally give up on Logic?

There's one killer feature in Cubase I saw in a video and the guy was drawing in square, sawtooth type shapes in the velocity editor. But I can't find the video any more and I can't find the feature in Cubase 8.5. It's an ideal feature for giving more expression to the velocity of hi hats for example.Or maybe I dreamed it lol.

Yes I noticed that. How come you've got a mute column in your drum editor?

It is always there! You mean you don't have it?!
I have Cubase Elements 8, but that the little brother of the full version of course.

That's odd I'm on Cubase Pro 8.5 and this is what my drum editor looks like :

There must be an option somewhere to enable extra columns?

Because you have chosen "No Drum Map" in the map field although you chose GM Map in the Names field.

It does. Mute and Solo are right there in the inspector as is visibility and edit and visibility filtering in the list. Same thing as Reaper really, just a different design. What it's missing that Reaper has in it's list is track record but since track selection follows that selection just hit the record key.

Not saying either design is better or worse but I have no issue muting, soloing, filtering from the key editor.
