Is Samplitude really the only DAW with solo/mute in the drum editor?

I'll have to check out the Cubase beat designer. I was just looking in the standard drum editor.Cubase beat designer has it.. that's plenty good enough.
I used to use the hyper editor all the time for drum programming. Unfortunately I made the mistake of switching to Logic for Windows about 3 months before Apple bought them out. Magix were developing the Samplitude drum editor around that time so that's why I started using Samplitude. Although development on the drum editor seems to have ground to a halt.Logic works a bit different, it's not as good as what you are showing, you need to highlight the bits and press the s key
About to watch the videoit seems PT can do it by creating your own drum matrix.. looks good enough.
Which begs the question what do you use to program your midi drums with then? That said, i have never used logic OR cubase to program my main midi drums, when i do program my own drums.. so i guess that's exactly why i never ran into this before!
One of the reasons I asked about solo/mute in drum editor's is that because I'm using some external sound modules. If I wanted to say render just the hats to audio I could solo those and render away.Although it would have to be a real time bounce of course. Same with kicks or snares or whatever.

Hey Kraz,
IIRC, you can solo and mute individual drums in the Cubase drum editor. I don't have it installed anymore (my N6 demo doesn't have the drum editor) but I could swear it allowed that. I think that empty column on the left solos or mutes or something. I'd also right click the headers to see if any columns are hidden...

Some of this stuff (when not given out on a silver platter) mostly requires a little thinking outside of the box. For example, if I wanted to do that in the S1 editor, solo a drum pitch in the key editor, I'd just select the pitch and run a macro to invert selection (select all other notes) and mute. Same thing. Toggle it back to put it all back.
But sure, having a solo button on every pitch lane would save a second or two.

Hi Theo - You certainly have your own particular methods for drum programming!! I'm very much a traditional all in one window type of person which is why I could dedicated editor. Unfortunately Cubase Beat Designer doesn't seem to allow you to play parts in real-time from your keyboard or drum pads or whatever. Looks great for programming though . Kind of reminds a bit of Samplitude's Beatbox 2 which was another great creation from Sascha before he left MAGIX to join U-He.TheoM wrote:Hi Kraznet, I use drum machines with their own sequencer! I do ALL the programming there (idrum for example). I DO sometimes drag it to midi if i feel like it, but because i have already done all the sequencing, it's usually just to have it in piano roll form - which i am very comfortable with!
I have never used Logic's hyper editor or cubase's "diamond" drum sequencer in my life! i DO use beat designer though, which has solo AND mute, like samp.
I also did most of my drums in reason for quite some years, only gave that up recently.
Most of it was using rex slices and creating sequences that way
Basically
Metrum for all mu kicks - standard piano roll
RP Punch for various drums - RP Punch sequencer
idrum for dedicated "sample only" patterns - idrum sequencer (can't use this in PT 12 at present). Still my favourite to this day and i am bummed izotope liked it off. It was elegant and did what it did to perfection.
For me, when izotope killed of phatmatik and idrum, they killed off my two favourite drum products - they bought this dev out and then stopped them both
Microtonic - it's own sequencer
Groove agent - beat designer
that's it!
I have not gone into it in PT 12 yet, as i am brand new to PT (last version i used comprehensively was 15 years back lol).

DP is somewhat interesting because even though mute doesn't work in the drum editor, it displays note mutes properly from other editors.
I will inquire about this.

Hi Lawrence. I can't seem to get that empty column to do anything even with key modifiers. You can mute drum notes in Cubase but you need to open the drum map setup window to do it which isn't that useful.LawrenceF wrote:Hey Kraz,

I may have that confused with Cubase VST 32 or something. I recall doing it but I don't recall how. It's in there though. Here's a pic from the C8 manual, you can see the "Mute" column in the drum editor. I think it has to do with how the map is setup, dunno...Kraznet wrote:Hi Lawrence. Also take note that Cubase's editor allows different grid / quantize settings for every pitch and (IIRC) routing any pitch to any output or instrument.
Here's "solo pitch" in S1. Easy enough to setup with macros...

Reaper pretty much has the most powerful version of this, even if a little unconventional, you have to create a new MIDI part for each drum channel, but they are all edited in the same editor and the Track List is very powerful, much more than just solo or mute.
Duh
