Lars has since apologized for that and said he regretted the whole thing immensely.

So can you people not understand what I mean with the drums?
Is it just me?

Can't really say I notice it, but I am listening to youtube with a couple of low cost ear plug headphones at the mo'

On a better sound system it might be an issue

I can. Really ugly kick sound. Reminds me on some cheap EDM kick packs with samples ripped from badly mixed and overcompressed tracks.

Iirc, Death Magnetics also suffered from bad production so much that people even made a petition to re-record and re-master it.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Personally I liked load/reload better as the band was acknowledging they were getting older instead of desperately trying to cling on to their semblance of youth like red bull drinking, aging man-children.

Exactly. At 0:30 especially. When the kick drops in it's layered with a cymbal that rings like a mofo. And this is on my daily headphones so nothing special.

But hasn't that been a case with Metallica since the passing of Cliff Burton?:

Treble on full, bass at null (zero).

I loved that album so much I trained my ears to ignore that distortion though.
Maybe I will in time do the same with this.

Let's start a petition to get Dave Mustaine back in the band
Personally I'd take Kirk any day.
+1

But they could give Dave's hair to Kirk.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Treble on bass drum is probably too high to translate good, but it sounds fine, cuts through the mix well.

Sounds pretty good to me ...

Wow! I expected something really, really bad, but if this would be (a lot) longer, it could be straight from ...and justice for all, at least that's what it reminds me of.

Someone certainly cranked up an exciter or something on that kick, but I don't mind it too much to be honest.

And yes, if you have Kirk Hammett in your band, you should give him time to do his thing. Please don't do a St. Anger on this album (was there even a single Guitar solo on St. Anger?).

Anyway, I'm certainly positively surprised.

The composition style sounds like it was lifted from Kill 'em All but with more cheese

Indeed, very similar.. good spot.
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

Lyric is kind of laughable

We're so f*cked
Shit out of luck
Hardwired to self destruct

Yeah right, you are living on the street and sleeping rough?

How rich are these guys by now
