New Metallica: 'Hardwired'

Now I am a massive Metallica fan, and have been for well over 20 years.
I could listen to the boys in the bathroom and still find it a pleasant experience.
However, I will admit this doesn't extend to St Anger :lol:

They released a new track yesterday off the forthcoming album.


So let's start with the positives:
a) It's Metallica
b) Still heavy
c) Still catchy

However, the negatives:
a) Those lyrics are just atrocious. My dog rhymes his woofs better.
b) 3mins. WTF?
c) Where's the massive guitar solo that we should all be thrashing around to?
d) My biggest gripe: That kick drum literally hurts my ears. It has a very nasty top end ring to it.

Thoughts? Mainly about the kick TBH.

I did feel very much like that guy TBH and I would love it if not for the rap lyrics and the ringy kick.

I wouldn't buy it but I appreciate the old school sound myself. I though it was really cool the way people made reaction videos on youtube. I've never seen that done before.

Well, after one listen.... there's something about the drums I don't like so much...
Not sure what it is :shrug:

Certainly it sounds like Metallica 8)
Let's wait for the album before forming a judgment, let's see if they choose to be on their progressive side or pop side or whatever...

Its the cymbal that's been mixed with the kick. It may just be me but I find it has a very harsh piercing frequency.

Sounds much closer to Kill'em All than to St. Anger or Load/Reload.

I agree that the kick sounds very ugly, and the guitar solo is too short. Overall, pretty pointless and simplistic song, where are the tempo/beat signature changes, the layered lead guitars? Sounds like a generic speed metal band from 80s.

Wow, this is just excellent, like Kill 'em all Metallica :clap:

BTW, riffs at 1.41 sounds sort of like a double speed version of Enter Sandman

They haven't released anything of worth since MOP......IMHO, just the best and original sounding riffs and chords,
