Problem is that "all time" means a retro look. Pop music has been around for 60 years plus. Music in general for 1,000's. To put something from the last 10 years there as something that stood the test of time would be superfivial. That does not mean that there are no good stuff from the last ten years, so here at KvR's list we have no restrictions.Timfonie wrote:It's a nice idea to put up such an 'all time favorites'-website, but it's indeed so very retro.
Where to find this kind of sites with (at least a little) more contemporary music?

Hmmm...changes frequently, but:
"Once around the World" by It Bites - the whole "motorway" section (not to mention the intro to "Rose Marie")
"Rearviewmirror" by Pearl Jam - the intro, what a simple, cool guitar line
"Let's go out tonight" by The Blue Nile - the intro, and the slightly dischordant outro
And the middle section of "Dark is the Night" by A-Ha.
Let the abuse begin.

Three shall be the number of the counting
And the number of the counting shall be three.

I would also add the high synth line that comes in halfway through smash and grab as a corker of a moment. Maybe that could be my number 3

The breakdown to Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life." Never fails to move me.
Oh, and a friend of mine goes nuts when Maurice White starts belting out "The bells were ringin', uh huh!" in Earth Wind and Fire's "September."

An idiot on Set Theory:

old old retro
some empty part of King Crimson's 'In the Court of the Crimson King' when the highly reverbed space seems to fold in on itself
Bonzo Dog's version of 'Sound of Music' after the monologue "I was walking in the west of London when I was beset upon by fans ... I ducked into a local theatre and there I experienced something I wish to share with you now."
when the background singers come in 'bum bum bum' in Lou Reed's 'Satelite of Love'
Bob Dylan sneering out in 'Idiot Wind' "...it's a wonder you remember how to breathe."
various parts of Cocteaus Twins 'Treasure' where that voice comes in with nonsense syllables and soars
the sax solo in Mott the Hoople's 'Golden Age of Rock'n'Roll'

Intro to Let There Be More Light by Pink Floyd, as well as most of their opus
Dropping the distorted flanged acid line in Space Shanity by Leftfield in the second half of the track.
The timestretched "tiiiimeeeeleesssS" and those outwordly strings on intro to Goldie's Timeless, at least the first time I heard it.
The solo from Kraftwerk's Das Model, sure it's cheesy but it kicks ass.
I could go on, and find better things I guess. But these are off the top of my head.
