For that we have AGC . Sorry, but we probably to agree on disagree. I don't think that output gain is needed if it does the same job as input gain. Not mentioning that adding a gain plugin afterwards if you believe you needed for any reason is very simple.

A (gain) plugin after another plugin just to compensate its level change makes A/B comparisons (bypass/unbypass) quite cumbersome to achieve...

Definitely! But the point is that you won't need it, so it's like an extreme case if you feel like you need it, but you probably don't anyway . If it's a compressor or something, then sure, it needs output gain, but if it is an eq, then it doesn't (unless it is heavily nonlinear, which I don't like ).
