I appreciate the FL idea, but I would not give up my Sonar until they sale it to Apple (as they developing Mac version). It is great, it does EVERYTHING I need it to do. When it works... It works on my old build. There is no reason for it not to work on the new. Something is missing.

Try to run Event Viewer, and see the errors there. Sometimes, it gives you clues what causes the problems. For example, I have this error (it doesn't affect me, but I know it is there because of Waves VSTi, the VST effects are OK without errors). So, see if you can trace Sonar there.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

My first guess was the UAC/Run As Administrator, but since I see you already did that, my next possibility to suggest is re-downloading through your account rather than Command Center and installing from it without CC. Make sure you do the advanced install and you'll be able to see the paths the registry has locked you into. Hopefully, it's just a file not coming through CC right.
Just a suggestion, because I know it sometimes works much better for me. I have had to go as far as sometimes setting the registry paths at times and there have been times it wasn't Cakewalk at all, but some particular plugin (The last a plugin got me was the NI Replika XMas gift, which I needed to uninstall before getting to scan through). If you can get into it, you might find another culprit in your scan manager too.
Good luck and I hope they don't give you the 'anomaly' speech.

Thank you for your replies. The event log registers the error but it gives bunch of numbers that say nothing meaningful to me.
At some point I will try the file from web site and not control venter but it is lease desirable because in that scenario, it will not be able to install updates via CC.
I did change the pathway when I installed Rapture Pro (one of their synths), but it was AFTER I installed Sonar.
I don't have anything else installed on this computer other than Antivirus.

Does it do anything different if you hold Shift while you try to run it? I know that can work to load problem projects in a type of safe mode.

You've probably done it but did you install the chipset drivers for your motherboard, they will be on the downloads page of your motherboard model, it's essential to install these. If none are listed you can get the intel updater from the intel site. Also check it there are any bios updates for the mobo and any other specific drivers you need to install from the downloads page.

I did try to start it in "Safe" for Sonar mode by holding Shift key (not Windows Safe mode). It gives me one extra window- when it opened first time, it usually says, "Sonar will personalize your settings now"- well- it says this, I say, "Ok", then the error message of "SONARPLT.exe stopped working" appears. It is pretty bad.
And yes, all the drivers from Asus motherboard web site were installed, including Chipset, audio and video.
This is the drivers page (Windows 10 64bit).
https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/RO ... _Download/
Now there is some weird audio monitoring software that got installed- I am not near that computer now to name it.
I installed
Realtek High Definition Audio (WHQL)
(Adds Advanced mode in Sonic Studio for Audio Routing Function.) ???
Realtek Audio Driver V6.0.1.7960 for Windows 7 32-bit & 64-bit, Windows 8.1 64-bit, Windows 10 64-bit.
Looks like they released new version of Chipset on 2/8/17, which is a hope- might of been something wrong with original- I will install it tonight when I get back home from work.
What else am I missing? Thank you.

Why is this in the instrument forum and not in the DAW one? Or even better, in the Cakewalk forum?

It is in Cakewalk forum. Also this is kind of urgent, if you can tell, and there is no traffic in the DAW forum. You dont have to contribute if you not interested. There many threads in Instruments that I dont want to have anything to do with. I just overlook them.

I was only writing that, because there is a reason for the existence of different fora. If anyone would post anything everywhere, it becomes a mess. So please, move this thread to the DAW section. Where it belongs.Astralv wrote:It is in Cakewalk forum. Also this is kind of urgent, if you can tell, and there is no traffic in the DAW forum. You dont have to contribute if you not interested. I am only writing it because I can not play. I have no access to any of my synths, any of my projects, I can not make any noise. It is scary situation and no fix. You worrying about mass. You can always iron your shoe laces extra time if you need to be organized. Go label your socks. Can you open your DAW? Can you hear the song you been working on? I cant. Any questions? Thanks.

Are you able to start any other DAW ? Try to demo another one to see if everything is fineAstralv wrote:I am only writing it because I can not play. Maybe it's time for a change...

Time for the change... You mean... This is a change. This is brand new computer. I just built it. Got best parts. Cost me over $2000 for the rig that has to do one thing" run DAW, and it cant. Waiting for Cakewalk Tech support to finally say something. They been silent after I sent them the dump file. Doubt there will be anything helpful in that file. It has to be something simple. Something is missing. Some driver. Wish I knew. It should be interesting for Cakewalk, why their software is not able to start on new system. Hope they trying to figure it out and not just being busy with anything else.

First, run CHKDSK /F from the Command Prompt (Admin). It will ask if you want to run it when you reboot, so you'll enter "y", then type EXIT (and hit Enter) to get out of the Command Prompt.Astralv wrote:Time for the change... You mean... Reboot, and let CHKDSK fix any errors it finds. Then, if SONAR still doesn't run, try running the .EXE file directly, instead of from the link.
Let me know how that works, and we'll go from there.
Also, your "other build"...does it also have the same version of SONAR? If so, we may want to simply replace the executable.

Can you record the time when trying to start Sonar, then look at the errors in the Event Viewer and paste what they say or snapshots of them?
Also, can you try downloading, installing and running Reaper's demo? It will take only few minutes. If it works fine, then the problem with Sonar.
Also can you try install Asio4All if you don't have an asio audio device attached?
