I just scanned over that gearslutz thread (I don't have an account there, and I won't create one...), and in my view the OP is giving the wrong advice:
"Want more bass with Satin? Increase the head bump."

I suppose the tests & curves were taken at 30ips entirely, at least that's how Satin's freq. response looks like.
Many of our modelled aspects are based on a 1/2" machine running at 15ips, and AFAIR we have taken into account pinch roller, capstan and head properties of a 1/4" classic, but with different head dimensions and gap.
While the latter (head gap) would be almost optimal for 15ips, I could possibly give a far better advice: increase the head gap a bit. This brings the bump frequency much lower (because of modelled eddy currents/mirror artifacts), and at the same time slightly decreases the HF response. Some emphasis should be applied likewise. The result might be much closer to what was observed on the Otaris.
