Wait, what year is this? Um, yes, I think most people are already aware of Kate Bush.
That said, I just got sucked into watching two different documentaries on her a few months ago, and I’ve been on a listening binge ever since.

well listen, she is brand new to me. i mean i'd heard her name but knew nothing till i probably watched the same doc as you. everyone else seems to have loved her since some adolescence. i guess that probably gives me a different perspective. shes def a product of her era. but there's something else there she's got that'd different and insanely compelling. mostly hounds of love and on, i have yet to experience the dreaming but i hear its great too
wait wat NI plug?

Blows me away that she could have written such mature and sophisticated songs at that age - especially Man with the child in his eyes - at 13!Googly Smythe wrote:Wuthering Heights - written when she was just 18.
And, apparently, she overruled EMI to get it released as a single. Not bad going for an unknown teenager.
Currently preferring the 50 Words For Snow album.

Dreaming and Hounds of Love is a wicked one-two punch. Can't really decide between them, but then again - thankfully, I don't have to.aMUSEd wrote:The Dreaming is my favourite
A talent like this would have asserted itself anyway, but I'm still eternally grateful for David Gilmour's patronage at the very beginning.
I'm just a bit sad that she went into "early retirement" - I couldn't really connect with her music after The Sensual World. There's no one quite like her.

are you sure? i think she's probably only gotten better throughout her entire career. i only ask because i've written off later releases of some of my favorite artists whether listening to them or not, the preconceived idea made the call for me. what i almost always find is another awesome work that i deprived myself of for dumb reasons. i'm actually convinced the idea that musicians lose it is a myth.
plus, she stilll is always working on a new album no matter what. she's made that pretty clear
anyway, don't try to tell me this isnt awesome:

That's my thoughts in a nutshell. I appreciate her earlier work, but she was in full bloom for those twoariston wrote:Dreaming and Hounds of Love is a wicked one-two punch. Can't really decide between them, but then again - thankfully, I don't have to.aMUSEd wrote:The Dreaming is my favourite![]()

"But just saying it could even make it happen"
Having grown up in the 70's/80's in the UK, her music was just part of the soundtrack of my life. She was one of my first crushes, along with Lena Zavaroni. However, i think the only album of hers I owned was 'The Whole Story'. I do remember parents/friends having others, so if I revisit them now I might recognise more than I remember.
"The Whole Story" is still an album I love to listen to (save for 'The Dreaming', which reminds me too much of Rolf Harris - an unfortunate association
). It would be a great place to start for anyone, as it's very accessible.
"Running Up That Hill" is still one of my favourites. Also really loved this:
Then there was her duet with Peter Gabriel
Just read today that his original choice was Dolly Parton. I wonder if it's because he knew he'd have to spend many hours ("Oh really! We need to do another take. Oh, alright, then"
), in a tight embrace ( . Y . )

When I heard her sing the words "Let's exchange the experience" in "Running Up That Hill", she owned my teenage soul.

I sometimes think that she doesn't get enough credit for her lyrics...Scotty wrote:When I heard her sing the words "Let's exchange the experience" in "Running Up That Hill", she owned my teenage soul.
"Bang goes another kanga on the bonnet of the van" - who writes such evocative lyrics today?
And what other mainstream artiste tackles issues such as the plight of the aborigines in Oz?

Now there's a snapshot I can relate to.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:Having grown up in the 70's/80's in the UK, her music was just part of the soundtrack of my life. She was one of my first crushes, along with Lena Zavaroni.
As for Kate, I see how people prefer her early/mid work (I probably do...) but the newer albums should be given some time, some peerless stuff on them.
And, lets face it, her choreography in the early days was always interesting...
