Thanks for the info and I will look into those options for sure.
I would love to get the other 3 guys to upgrade their systems and software! They are pretty new to computer music so I want to make sure they are going to stick with it.
Does anyone know if the Behringer DDM4000 mixer can be used as a "master clock"?
If it can I was thinking it could be a all in one solution. I could just split the midi to the 4 computers using a thru hub or several thru hubs and convert to usb. Then slave all instances of reason, reaper etc.....
Not only would this combine my mixer and clock needs but it also would eliminate the DAW's from loading new songs hundreds of bars in or whatever the master DAW's sequencer is playing at.
I know Behringer products are not the best but I am just looking to get something going for now. If any of the 3 guys gets more serious (I am only sure that 1 will) then we can put together a more permanent/quality setup.
Again thank you everyone for all the input so far. I have been running myself through the ringer on this one. Every answer and suggestion feels like a little bit of weight lifted and is hugely appreciated!

The DDM4000 has midi clock out, so you could use that, however, You should try this with just your own machine before convincing yourself that it's going to work.eosophobia wrote:Thanks for the info and I will look into those options for sure.

BTW: Link doesn't use midi for syncing, it just uses the local network, even wireless.
You should probably describe how you're trying to work a little more thoroughly. Do you expect to load some version of the same song/set into all three DAWs and just have then run together for the duration of the song/set? That is not really compatible with what you described in your first post:
I wouldn't worry all that much about trying to get a "master setup," I would invite one mate over and plan on spending the day working out how you want to work together and try to get one of the solutions going for the day and then sitting down and trying it.Allowing us to bring in our own sounds or songs without having to try to worry about tempo or timing be off.

first off thank you for the confirmation on the DDM4000. I kept reading that it has MIDI capabilities and some hinted at it having MIDI clock out but nothing concrete.
I have ditched all hope of using Link at this point much to my dismay. It's just not in the cards at the moment and with that the idea of having a master MIDI clock computer has been tossed. I would rather go the hardware route.
As far as what I am trying to achieve is just to be able to almost jam a set not unlike 4 people playing records together on 4 turntables. With a little bit of more of a free form jam. I used to this with friends where I lived before but they had a lot more experience with music, or more to the point mixing (we were all DJ's). So we all could start, stop, load new song and start again by ear. These guys are not there so I figured a little help with mix in or "sync" would be one less point of frustration for them to deal with. I know I am probably making it a way bigger deal than need be but I want to recreate that seamless flow that I had before. Plus it doesn't help that when I have an idea I tend to obsess over it.
I think I have it pretty well figured out and have no problem dropping the coin on the DDM4000 to make it happen. I figure that paired up with iConnectivity mio4 MIDI interface should do the trick. If not for this I know I can use both of those devices for more personal projects.
