yeah they are but using those abilities through such a platform as this is not so wonderful. You can still design sound as well as (and I would argue, better) in other synths. You cant simply rate something on how deep it is, that's a pretty narrow minded view imo.V0RT3X wrote:Lots of us "pweeple" actually take the time to learn synthesis such as "Asynth" and use the product to make our own sounds from scratch, so having all those deep abilities are a wonderful thing to have.Kinh wrote:personally i think if you have to go out and find 3rd party presets in order to get the most out of a synth then it mustn't be that great.pinki wrote:It's been around for 20 years but it's still an amazing synth.

Absynth.
I tend to rate Asynth quite low for that reason, maybe a bit higher if i could actually find presets for it. What makes a synth great for me is how easy it is to do things wit it.

Absynth is a great synth, don't care how old it is, it's still pretty unique, only Omnisphere comes close to its feature set (as a whole).

Falcon is more similar I'd say.aMUSEd wrote:Absynth is a great synth, don't care how old it is, it's still pretty unique, only Omnisphere comes close to its feature set (as a whole).

When you've got a sample jump envelope controlled by the mod wheel scanning through a loop into a filter with a waveshaper in the feedback path then passed on into a graincloud and the pipe effects, I think you'd have a job replicating that in anything else.

Only got Komplete a few months back and am still working my way through the various instruments. Have only recently discovered Absynth but am loving it so far, although I'd agree it needs a GUI update and I think it's not the most intuitive synth at times, although it starts coming together with familiarity (or RTFM). Really nice as an fx unit too.Gamma-UT wrote:When you've got a sample jump envelope controlled by the mod wheel scanning through a loop into a filter with a waveshaper in the feedback path then passed on into a graincloud and the pipe effects, I think you'd have a job replicating that in anything else.

Some guys in other threads call Absynth too old and therefore not relevant. How wrong they are! Absynth is able to produce highly interesting living sounds which are superior to many newcomers. It depends on your taste and your genre...shonky wrote:Only got Komplete a few months back and am still working my way through the various instruments. Absynth needs an GUI overhaul and the GUI is also the main point why so many people feel completely lost if they try to program this synth
I don't know if there is a similar synth with the same or more features but I think that Absynth is still used by many people.

In terms of possibilities, i think Absynth is one of the best on the market. In terms of audio quality as well. But as a usable synth? No (IMO). Because of the terrible UI. I really hate all the tabs, the looks and the size of this otherwise amazing synth (and fx unit).
Synths like Icarus, Falcon, Serum, Avenger and even Harmor, show how it should be done (again, IMO) UI-wise, but still offer a LOT of possibilties. I open those synth WAY more often because of that.
So i hope NI will update and change Absynth to make it more usable. Although, i don't see that happen anymore. Since they seem to go completely Kontakt, Reaktor and Mashine...

The reason why people get lost is that it doesn't work like most synths. It looks superficially like a regular subtractive but treating it like one doesn't yield much that's useful. The GUI actually makes sense once you work out how to get worthwhile results out of it and start to exploit the idea of "if it's got a number you can slap an envelope or modulator on it".4damind wrote:Absynth needs an GUI overhaul and the GUI is also the main point why so many people feel completely lost if they try to program this synth![]()
The only things I could see making a difference would be to transform some of the numeric boxes to X-Y pads - such as delay and feedback in the effects or filters, for example. And those would be nice-to-have rather than fundamental (though with the drawback of chewing up more screen real estate for not a huge gain). Plus the obvious one of making it larger on high pixel-density screens. That's about it.

There are a lot of things about the UI that are dated, but it's actually not too bad if you run it standalone and undock all the different tabs over 2 monitors - you can get a very nice overview, very inviting to tweak. Obviously not good in all situations, but if you're sitting down for some sound design...

The causal link „old=crap“ was not made by me.
On the contrary I critized that.
I said „old can be good, if you like it“.
Don‘t understand why this causes your disapproval!?

Well it is true that it's not an easy synth to programme, so if that's how you rate a synth then, yes, this will be low on your list. For me the third party presets are a great thing and if you can't find presets for it just check out LIV or The Unfinished.Kinh wrote:personally i think if you have to go out and find 3rd party presets in order to get the most out of a synth then it mustn't be that great.pinki wrote:It's been around for 20 years but it's still an amazing synth.
