Can't load: Waves Scheps Omni Channel Strip

Sorry to hear you still have issues. Waves Central is a bit annoying. I only have two Waves plugins, but both work in W9, as long as I stick with VST3.
Just used Waves Scheps in W9 this morning. No problems at all here. Make sure that you have 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3' in your VST3 scan path in Waveform, and try scanning again. Also look in the 'Settings > Plugins' list and check that the VST3 plugin has a check mark set in the 'view' column.
If you can load it in Reaper without issues, that is a good start! Is Reaper using the VST2 or VST3 version? It is possible that you can still load the VST2 OK in Reaper, although you may not have the VST3 successfully installed on your system.

I let the issue rest for a while. I recently checked again, re-scanned the plugins and now the Waves stuff is there in W9 demo. Can't say that I did anything to make it happen, but in the interim I installed various things including another Waves plugin so maybe something was a conflict.
Thanks again to the community for helping in trying to make this work. I ended up going with Studio One for a number of reasons, but I'm keeping an eye on Tracktion software and I hope to support in the future by buying W9 after it comes out of Beta. (I simply refuse to work with early-release software - maybe that makes me a dinosaur).

I have and like them both. They are good at different things. I think that Waveform has better MIDI tools, but you probably cannot beat Studio One for a mixing and mastering environment.jochicago wrote:

Thanks for that note. Is there a write up somewhere about the MIDI advantages in Tracktion/Waveform? I'm still learning both DAWs and could use a better understanding.

We had all these issues scanning waves into T8/Waveform.When I purchased Waveform they all managed to appear magically when the plugins were scanned automatically.I now have E/Piano which crashes Waveform and Grand Rhapsody which will not scan at all.Originally Waves would only scan into 32 bit program.Waves just tell you that they are not compatible with Waveform and offer no remedy,[Waves email yesterday],

Tracktion and Waves are aware of an issue related to the Juce programming framework, and are working on a solution. It may not be quick, though. That was posted in another thread on this forum.Farnell wrote:We had all these issues scanning waves into T8/Waveform.When I purchased Waveform they all managed to appear magically when the plugins were scanned automatically.I now have E/Piano which crashes Waveform and Grand Rhapsody which will not scan at all.Originally Waves would only scan into 32 bit program.Waves just tell you that they are not compatible with Waveform and offer no remedy,[Waves email yesterday],

Not aware of any specific write up comparing those two. They are quite different, and probably would not be comparable for intended workflow in many cases.jochicago wrote:Thanks for that note. Just my observation, for what it's worth, is that there are roughly two broad categories of DAWs and DAW-like programs.
Let's just refer to the first as group 'A' and the second as group 'B'.
In the dawn of the DAW era, many DAW designers attempted to copy the metaphor and workflow of the traditional physical tape based recording studio, which included a recording console and all that is needed for recording and producing music with real instruments. So the layouts were quite similar in order to be familiar to pro engineers making the transition to digital. Try to keep the same workflow, but take advantage of the new media.
I would suggest that the group 'A' DAWs of today would most closely resemble this traditional recording studio metaphor that they inherited. Think Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, Sonar, etc.
For group 'B', I would suggest that along the way, there have been many DAW spin-offs that are highly successful, but that broke the mold and went their own way and tried to take advantage of the new technology in creative ways. Some of these may be more powerful creative tools in the hands of a musician, or bedroom producer, rather than an engineer. Think Ableton Live, Reason, FL Studio, Tracktion, Acid, etc.
I have tried many DAWs over the years, and own several today. My collection represents both groups 'A' and 'B'. I feel more creative at times using a group 'B' app. I do not play guitar and my workflow is almost entirely MIDI soft synth based, so I look for the ability to compose with MIDI as being my priority. I love the new MIDI composition tools in Waveform, and that is the only reason I bought it. I have not seen anything quite like that in any other DAW I have tried.
So I cannot recommend any particular DAW to someone. I can only say to try as many demos as you can and decide what works best for your workflow. What works for one person, may be an annoyance to another. The main thing is that there is no DAW that is 100% bug free. They all have bugs. There is no DAW with EVERY feature. You have to compromise and find one or two that fit.
From the many comments I have seen posted by music professionals, their biggest priority is productivity. Time is money, so being fluent in one DAW is the most important. Changes to workflow can be very disruptive. But for non-professionals like me, I have the luxury of exploring creative opportunity whenever I choose. That can be fun!

A couple of other quick things that came to mind that Waveform has as MIDI advantages, beyond the MIDI composition tools and the new chord track.jochicago wrote:Thanks for that note. Step clips (inline MIDI step sequencer). There are a few folks wishing that Studio One had a step sequencer.
MIDI MPE (Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression). ROLI Seaboard controllers express pitch
bend, timbre, and other nuances per note. This is a new MIDI feature that was ratified recently by the MIDI Manufacturers Association, and there are a limited number of hosts and virtual instruments with support for MPE. Waveform is on the list.

It'd be more steps and more money and I'm not sure if they have a demo to try, but I suspect Bluecat Patchwork could be loaded into Waveform and then Patchwork could load the Waves plugin. But don't quote me on that!

I've had some luck using Wave's rack plugin to load the other Waves plugs I use.
