What can we realistically expect in Bitwig v2.4?

I would love to see more improvements of what is already there than all kinds of new features, but that's probably just me. For instance:
- Faster boot times
- Better performance (offloading UI to GPU)
- UI optimalizations (some things like quantize and grid settings for instance were much faster to navigate in 1.3.x versions)

Maybe a nice new toy to steal the show like a granular synth but that's just icing on the cake

Just make the sampler better so we can build our own granular synths :3

In some sense that is true... however MPE support is a significant talking point for Bitwig and is the reason I (and others) purchased Bitwig. Without midi channel support, MPE support is somewhat crippled. I consider it important to get the features one already has and advertises about working as expected.

Seems like an immediate need is for the GUI speedup... but that work can only proceed so fast, so I see no point to hold back a 2.4 upgrade if/because the GUI stuff isn't ready.

+1

Also Marker Ranges from the list would be great. Its always at the arrangement part that I find Bitwig's excellent workflow breaks down. Moving sections around etc.

A lot of complaining. :tantrum:
Nice list, for the most part. Pretty much covers what I'd like to see.

I would like to see some sampler love. Also, GPU acceleration for sure, people need this and I will too.

Where did you see that deal? I'd be interested to check it out.

I suspect there will be a lot of people just out of upgrade from V2 who will upgrade when 2.4 comes out (as we are sort of in a limbo period now, I realy like Bitwig but I can’t see the point of upgrading until an update comes out!)
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

(GUI) performance optimization is on my top list, however I don't believe it will be part of 2.4.

I would like to have convolution reverb. Should be amazing with the bitwig´s modulators.

Post

Yeah we need more reverbs, currently it's the only thing I need VST for...

I really hope that guys can add Midi Chase function, it's very useful for long bass notes / pads / drones / etc. Also, it will be really nice to see timestretching in Sampler, as well as fixed automatic "Tune" function in CV Instrument when working with Expert Sleepers hardware.

I wonder that now Apple have announced they will depreciate OpenGL it's thrown a spanner in Bitwig's works? If they were already in the middle of rewriting the code using OpenGl, they'd basically have to start again.

Post

They will sooner drop MacOS support than OpenGL. But they might be forced to write a separate GUI for Mac using Apple graphics library, and a separate GUI for Windows and Linux using OpenGL.
