good investment (i bought it too
i think that the FREE
VSTHOST v1.11 :

http://www.hermannseib.com/programs/vsthost.zip
... is more than enough to check
some functions and make some
screenshots for tutorials !
it was specially designed to
run and check vstis for educational purposes !
it supports ASIO and MidiIN.
it could run energyXT too
(not necessary as told).
for execution of VSTHOST
you only need the small exe-file out of the folder "release".
all other files are the programmers
source files (*.h, *.cpp, *.dsw. *.dsp, *.rc and the folder "res") and can be stored seperately.
first make a folder "vsthost"
then copy "vsthost.exe" out of the
release folder into it and finally copy the vsti's or vst's into this folder.
then:
1. start "vsthost.exe"
2. devices > choose MIDI + WAV
3. engine > run (or button)
4. file > new (or button)
to load a vst/vsti
5. push the knob-button
to show the gui
6. have fun...
