Need standalone plugin host app

I'm creating a tutorial, and need an app I can use as a shell for some of my PC plugins.
I need to do this:
1) Use my PC as a standalone synth, using only one instrument.
2) Use my PC as a synth using multiple synths at the same time, using 1 midi in, and having my audio come out of multiple outputs.
3) Use my PC as an outboard FX unit using multiple FX and multi outs.
4) Use my PC to both play synths, and fx, with multi outs.
Simple, but there are a few programs out. Which is best, and costs a reasonable price?
Thanks, George

There's alotta hosts that will do that, but check out Steinberg's V Stack, sounds like that would float you along nicely. You can host up to 16 instruments at once & it's got ReWire capability as well as some Cubase routing thingy.
It's like $90 USD.
A free host you'll find in Toybear's MiniHost, but you canonly use one instrument at a time & no inserts I believe. Check it out to be sure.
good luck,

Am I wrong or VStack doesn't support line input?
That is while perfect for #1 and #2 requests if you need to use the pc as an outboard fx, for voice/guitar/etc, you can't do it with VStack.
With same necessity I choose Chainer. Not looking good as vstack but working really well.

Chainer is nice, but doesn't support DirectX-FX nor multiple Outputs.
Brainspawn Forte Ensemble might really come in handy here too. Most probably covers all your needs in a standalone environnement.
Check it out

Forte is probably the best choice for a live show - i'm quite sure it covers all your needs.
it has no sequencing capabilities tho, but i gess you don't care.
Energy XT is another good choice, but it wasn't specifically designed for the use on stage and needs a pretty large amount of time to understand and master its deepest potentials.

thats right, it wasn't designed only to work on stage, but also as a sequencer, guitar effect processor, midi arpeggiator, midi envelope, live composer and jammer...Energy XT is another good choice, but it wasn't specifically designed for the use on stage
cheers

IMHO (running W2k Pro):
EnergyXT is just plain incredible.
Very easy to use but very deep in features. I haven't got deep enough into it yet to figure out what it can't do! Great for live or studio work.
Chainer a minimal host that is good for live playing or within another host. Though it can be buggy with many VST loaded or when you are "surfing" through your VST collection looking for the right sound.
Console and Forte are both very buggy assuming you ever get them to run at all.
my2sense,
Rob

I don't think this will do the multi out requirement, but for stereo master out an awesome combination of free donationware programs is TobyBear's MiniHost running the CTAF Multifxvst. Works great.

EnergyXT is the most amazing program - I use it as a VSTi inside Cubase where it opens as a window in which I can then link various VSTis and fx plus special midi fx such as arpeggiators, gates, chord players etc. It can also be used as a VST fx so you could open it in an insert or send channel and link fx that way. Plus midi controller support is great - a cc list is automatically built everytime you insert a VST into eXT - just select the controller you want to control - perhaps a VST's cutoff frequency - then select a controller number and then, if you want to, select the control range - perhaps 50 to 80 rather than 0 to 127 or even backwards so that 127 is the lowest and 0 is the highest (useful for controlling various controllers at once). eXT Gets rid of the old Cubase limit of the number of VST audio/mixer channels and allows you to link stuff up in so many different ways. Plus I have a copy of eXT running as a standalone on my second PC - connected via midi with usually about 16 to 20 audio channels running between the two PCs. I could go on about it for hours - give it a trial - plus it's sooooo cheap - about £30 I think!!
