With all due respect, I could not disagree more. The type of composer you mention should just buy something like a Rob Papen synth - they have masses of presets and an Easy panel. Or get Arturia Analog Lab - same basic idea.

Limiting MSF to what you suggest would be like taking a superb French Bordeaux and using it in cooking a spicy ratatouille - a horrible waste.

Actually, what I ended up with for the drawbar organ was presets within presets. I attempted to duplicate (I think with at least moderate accuracy) the black keys on a Hammond keyboard that summon up a specific drawbar pattern. I did a similar thing with the Novachord immitation: I provided ten or so descriptively-named preset-within-preset options so that those who know zero about the Novachord could easily find their way around with little hesitation.

In other side, I agree your thought.
But my opinion does not mean limiting the possibilities of MSF.

Complex and creative synthesizing is already works well on edit screen.
I felt 200% satisfied on MSF's edit screen.

But active preset panel - it's another story.
Many composers(Not Sound designers) will see active screen first, and they try to feeling some inspires.
I think, that screen is, not inspiring at all.
Placing just few knobs isn't meaning 'limitation', It means focus.
And also, 'Unlimited synthesizing' is works enough on edit screen.

I think all active presets should be simple.
Just my opinion.

Sounds interesting. I can’t wait to hear it. I think presets inside presets are good, but I’d still like to see separate presets that aren’t active.

I think the active presets should function the same way as they do in MTurboreverb, Mturbodelay, etc. They should be starting points for making your own sounds that have the basics already setup for you. The normal presets should be just be good sounds that need little or no tweaking i.e “ELP Tarkus organ”, “Jimmy Smith Organ”, “Deep purple organ”, etc. IMO that is the best way to satisfy everyone. Non-programmers can just browse the normal presets without any tweaking until they find something they want. Programmers in a hurry can use an active preset to get them 80% there and then tweak the easy screen to get what they want. Programmers that love to play with synthesis can either start from scratch or hit the edit button on whatever they want.

About per voices fx, I thinks, saturation per voices have his place in the active presets .

I slowly construct my init active preset, title button could be nice to use, for fx on, poly, mono : for switch in general

About presets into a preset, it could be done if we could be able to bypass a modular generator, each presets should be in a distinct modular.

I've only just started looking at this. Can someone let me know where these 2 parameters are?
MP 2 ( Velocity range ) > Volume control - Range
MP 3 ( Velocity response ) > Velocity shape - Point 1 curvature

Edit: found them - in the Advanced Settings. Perhaps the names need to be more precise:

Unless it's against some policy, I'd be happy to post a couple of presets here. Of course they are works in progress, especially as regards reorganizing the UI to whatever standard emerges at the end of the day. Stay tuned.

I have do it for my personal need, like a white canvas for sound design.
I could divide the x, horizontal by 2, and mult by 2 the vertical for laptops users. Idk...

I will add :
Choose Mturboreverb active preset, and perhaps add a master Turbocomp.
I hope, the turbo delay will be in the fx list, Turbo concept is a Must !

OK, here are a couple of presets: drawbar organ and Novachord. I'm mainly posting them here to illustrate what presets-within-presets can do. Presets-in-presets are just a little bit of work and can nicely set up a complex preset for immediate gratification. Also, the UIs are not finalized - waiting for standards to be established before doing that.

The Novachord sounds good too, but I'm not familiar with the original, so I don't know what it is supposed to sound like. In the organ preset what do the filters do?

I was thinking of doing an organ also, but it seems like a waste of time for multiple people to make similar presets. Once everything is decided I hope there is a new thread where we can share some of the stuff we're working on. I think I might need some help with some electric pianos I'm working on.

The drawbar organ was built from the ground up - I didn't even look at the included organ preset. The filters are there in the generator for the following reason. For the 16', 8', 4' and 2' stops (drawbars), I included the non-standard capability of substituting a softened triangle or softened square wave as an alternative to the default sine wave. Those filters kick in if an alternate waveform is selected.

The Novachord is a fascinating instrument from the Hammond Organ Company produced just before WW2. It's really the first electronic synth ever produced and it's fully polyphonic as well. If you are old enough to have watched black and white SF TV shows like Outer Limits, you have heard the Novachord before. Several major restoration projects on surviving instruments in the last decade lead to some very cool Novachord Kontakt libraries from Hollow Sun and Soniccouture.

I would tend to make some active presets, which are more specific with less controls. Not a new synth, but a synth preset, which you can modify with some controls. Maybe a nice cinematic synth bass I could modify. Not a basic synth preset, in which I had to sculpt such a bass on my own.

buing & Tagirijus - I agree with the basic idea of keeping things simple because people don’t want to tweak everything themselves. However my objections would be 1). There isn’t much point of having an easy screen in that case. Just use the MPs on the right side of the gui as macros. That would provide a basic ability to control something and it would require way less flipping between screens. 2). If all the active presets only have limited tweakability, what is the difference between active presets and regular presets? If they all need to be simple just get rid of active presets and make everything a normal preset.

Right now it seems like there is confusion over the concept of active presets and what they should be. Is there a difference between “active presets” and “presets” and why would someone use 1 vs the other? Is one going to be removed? Are they the same thing, but provide different ways of browsing?

There is a good point, yes. I still would think of an Active Preset for MPS as some kind of "better controlable preset" than just a normal preset with just a few MPs attached. I would understand an Active Preset here as a preset from which you could get quite different sounds, but not that much that every Active Preset would be a new synthesizer on its own.

Even if: I would not like to be bound to a very predefined knobs-layout, since I would feel forced to come up with things I would never normally put into a preset / synth. For example "effects": most of the time I try to avoid to use effects inside a generator plugin, since I want to have control over the effects in my effect chain in my sequencer.
