BTW, adding to what i wrote above, Waves is a pretty excessive example for the "sales are stupid" theory. Makes me double wonder about the need for this rant. Why pick an excessive example to prove something which isn't excercized excessively by most vendors as a reason to generally claim that a thing is stupid? That's... stupid. Sorry, can't put it another way.

They are stupid. They show me, as a person buying software, a company lacks integrity. You don't need to have constant 90% off sales if you just price a product fairly to begin with.chk071 wrote: Mon Feb 25, 2019 6:08 pmYes, there are 1 or 2. The most serve the market. Which means they are doing sales. Sales are not stupid. Not in the least. They're smart. Anything else is stupid.SAW75 wrote: Mon Feb 25, 2019 6:05 pmThanks for being insulting. I guess I just posted because I see this sort of thing get more and more extreme through the years... I think it is some sort of character flaw of the executives to operate a company like that. Obviously some developers agree and avoid doing sales...chk071 wrote: Mon Feb 25, 2019 5:43 pm "Software has no physical value." Wow. The insight of the millenium.
Ever heard of that stuff called freeware?
U-he did a lot of sales recently, BTW. Don't be fooled.
Whatever. People who are still down with this model of society where everyone is a rat in training are just idiots. Try supporting integrity once in a while.
We all know what happened with the UHE sale. People REALLY showed no integrity with that one. Buying bundles multiple times and creating a little business out of jerking UHE around. Nice musicians.

Well, I'm not naive anymore. I regularly get spammed via Chrome for Waves sales, and I just have to wonder what would've happened had I been subjected to this stuff 10 years ago. If I didn't already have as many TrackS plugins as I could possibly want or need, I'd probably go for the Waves sales, and save THOUSANDS!SAW75 wrote: Mon Feb 25, 2019 6:06 pmI am not all that naive. I have probably made more money here than any other seller in the marketplace since my original membership in 2002.Bombadil wrote: Mon Feb 25, 2019 5:52 pm Ahh, I remember when I was young and naive about software companies and their sales strategies. Takes me back to 2009 or thereabouts, when I bought Miroslav 1, my first 3rd party software purchase.

It's stupid to want to live in a world where things are valued for actually what they are?chk071 wrote: Mon Feb 25, 2019 6:12 pm

I guess that was my point. The trend is kinda a newer one and becoming more extreme. I wonder how people sold software before 2010.Bombadil wrote: Mon Feb 25, 2019 6:15 pm I just have to wonder what would've happened had I been subjected to this stuff 10 years ago.

So how much value does freeware have? None?
Software is no physical good. It's pointless to treat it like that. It's also pointless to take full price forever, because noone will buy the software 2 years later, while you can create a lot of additional sales with a discount. And make lots of people happy that way.

It is pointless to list a product at $400 and sell it for $29 every other week.
That simply means that the $400 list price is BULLSHIT.
Freeware never had a list price to begin with so I do not see how it is relevant other than you might simply have nothing better to do other than argue with people at KVR.

Again, taking an example where it is done excessively, and then arguing that sales are stupid in general, isn't very smart. Also, how does that kind of behavior hurt you in any way? You are allowed to say no. You're even allowed to not buy anything from Waves anymore. In general, what exactly is your point, or why do you feel mistreated? Because a company sells a non-physical good for prices they decide? Don't get it. They could even gift it to you. It's software.

Waves is one of those companies that you never buy from unless there is a sale.

This has been proliferation in competition over a period of years. It's like you got a nuke, I got two, oh you got two, I got four.
And what it really is mostly is this: Nice girl during the day, goes to church, nice family, successful... you are sold. Then she goes out every night and f**ks the entire town. Ok. Sounds fun, cheap, easy... but eventually even a guy like chk071 would have to wonder about her integrity.
So yeah... I'm just about over developers playing this game. They can produce as many serial numbers as they want and as a matter of course offer worse and worse customer support because they keep multiplying their customer base with a bunch of cheapskates that only buy into stuff because it's the next great deal... because they are collectors of crap, not musicians.
Well, I only have ONE of those serial numbers and I am only concerned with IT'S value.

It's manipulation and I was always taught to manipulate someone is very bad behavior. So that is why it is stupid. And I really don't buy software anymore so I don't feel mistreated at all. Right now I am just looking to replace my Amplitube stuff because in the end it was so BLOATED with stuff I didn't need or use I became one of those "collectors".
I had the entire Amplitube suite and used 3 amps and 3 pedals. Currently looking very closely at the new sknote stuff. Modelling Neil Young's amp... awesome! No offense to Dimebag (RIP) but he is no Neil Young and I really don't need a replica of his gate pedal.
