It is, but only for drums and drum machines. This is what I tend to use if my kicks are too weak (after checking and fixing any phase issues off course).Daimonicon wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 7:20 pm MH Thump is a free alternative https://mhsecure.com/metric_halo/produc ... thump.html

And its very good.drzhnn wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2019 1:02 pm bx_subsynth is nice and free. Also there's a bunch of cool bass enhancing effects in Airwindows bundle.

simulate what it does with parallel processing.. you can get better, more flexible results.
I usually use linear-phase filters/eq that goes into a compressor and then a saturation/distortion processor and blend that in with the original at low volume

The bx_ plugins are certainly interesting if you want to give the bass a bit more "oumpf" but don't want to work with layering or special "tricks" when programming the bass. The Waves plugins are rather interesting if the bass should still be audible on "cheap" systems.drzhnn wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2019 1:02 pm bx_subsynth is nice and free. bx_subsynth adds "only" more low-end? The Waves plugins are adding higher harmonics and "replacing" low frequency content which cannot be heard on cheaper systems. Yes, the whole thing is a bit more complex internally (and patented).
It seems that MaxxBass/RBass is still the holy grail for this special Bass enhancement. But its not expensive, so why not buy the original plugins?

I actually posted a link with a wrong title4damind wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 8:36 pmThe bx_ plugins are certainly interesting if you want to give the bass a bit more "oumpf" but don't want to work with layering or special "tricks" when programming the bass. Yeah, it's just the filter. The description says it's something like an HP filter and a bandpass? So it's nothing special, it's the typical EQing of the bass, but it makes it a bit easier.
I've only heard examples of the bx_subsynth and the effect sounds different.
For RBass/MaxxBass there are no new features anymore, so WUP doesn't make sense.
Otherwise it is similar to the Sony Inflator. It used to be used in almost every song and currently many users don't use it anymore.
Today many users use saturation and/or the layering of different basses.

TBH, i never got the point of bass enhancing plugins. Can't you do all that with layering, or EQ'ing? Or is it rather a one click, or quick applying of something you'd have to do more tediously?4damind wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 11:01 pm Today many users use saturation and/or the layering of different basses.

No it's not the same thing as using EQ. If that was the case, we wouldn't needed something like Rbass or Maxxbass. It's best used sparingly most of the time. Unless you go for an fx- sound.chk071 wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 11:05 pmTBH, i never got the point of bass enhancing plugins. Can't you do all that with layering, or EQ'ing? Hotto Engineering
VST Small Speaker Bass Enhancer
Requires java, X86.
https://web.archive.org/web/20170830173 ... ancer.html
Quote
"The plug-in uses a technology called phantom fundamental which was already known to pipe organ builder hundreds of years ago.
Psychoacoustics shows, that a fundamental component can be heard even if it is just represented by its harmonics. An example would be two organ pipes playing at 100Hz and 150Hz where our brain creates a fundamental at 50Hz.
By using that technology small speaker with a cut-off frequency of 100Hz could be used to create a 50Hz phantom component which is just there because the psychoacoustic part of our brain extrapolates it." Quote

Can be bridged, I don't know if it would require both X64 and X86 Java.
I installed both and used JBridge.

Digital EQs just amplify specified frequencies, they're boosting whatever is already present in the signal. OTOH bass enhancers usually add new harmonic content to the signal and by such enhance the perception of low end. They are specialized type of saturators, dynamic resonators etc. Bass enhancers are also useful for sound design, say, for creating bass drums. You can take a short percussive sound (snap, click or even noise burst) and apply RBass or bx_subsynth to it several times in a row and get a nice clean bass drum. With RBass you can even fine tune the base frequency of such drum.chk071 wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 11:05 pmTBH, i never got the point of bass enhancing plugins. This is what the patent sayspixel85 wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 6:53 pm I guess that Rbass is more like:
- bandpass (or lowpass) filter to select operational base
- harmonics generator/saturator
- bandpass filter for generated harmonics
- mix of processed and original signal
