well if giving links on here is not allowed, that's fair enough. I'm not trying to promote piracy, I was just showing another example of a rogue russian mp3 site....

Guys, I didn't ask this to be controversial or to post a known illegal site.
I was asking an honest question.
If the administrator thinks it is a problem he is certainly welcome to remove the link.
How could I ask about it without people knowing what the site is.
If the record companies want $1.00 per song you have to know it is too much. I don't know if $0.25 is really too little.

It doesn't seem to be legal to me--they claim they license their content from some rather dubious organization (ie I hardly ever heard of it
) As for the pricing, there may be some tricky things--all the majors, operating in Russia (ie Universal, Sony and EMI) produce special editions of their current chart records and back catalogue, priced at RR149-199 (app. US$5-7), for sale in CIS and Russia exclusively. The difference is the booklets are generally reduced to a simple inlay and all the credits are in Russian. Otherwise they're OK. So, there are ways to decrease costs, obviously.

Well, it's certainly no problem for the Guardian--they have the link to the site in the bottom of their page posted herePT wrote:

I've read the disclaimer on their russian page, that's where I got what I think to be dubious. Here, legally you have to license music either from a record company or from RAO (Russian Authors' Society), in case the writer/performer hold the rights themselves (and are members of RAO which they usually are).

as they said in the article, it comes don't to your own consciousness. according to Russian law it's legal (even though they use some loophole) which of course doesn't make it fair to the musicians and record companies.
so you won't be breaking the law but you will be guilty of *stealing* from the people who owe the music

You're right, I read the article and they seem to be all for it. Of course I'm sure they are not any kind of legal authority. It at least seems legal for now. Someone mentioned the PayPal payment option was down. I think this is probably the only way I would participate. Oh well, I guess we'll see how long they stick around.Well, it's certainly no problem for the Guardian--they have the link to the site in the bottom of their page posted here
