Is anyone familiar with this music download site?
www.allofmp3.com/
They say that they pay liscencing fees for the music and that they are legal according to Russian law, but that it may be illegal in other countries to download from them. They offer no lists of countries and I have no idea how a person could check up on the legallity of using their site from the USA.
They only charge something like 5 cents per MB which is about 25 cents per average tune.
I'd sure like to use them, but wouldn't like getting sued.

Oh well, a Russian site, pricing the third part of the average webdownload-fee... I guess this is as legal as any other russian site offering akais for ten bucks etc. But who knows, just go and ask a record company...

I'd be willing to bet the only person making money is the site owners, not the artists.

As stated under their 'legal' info.AllOFMP3.com's Administration does not keep up with the laws of different countries and is not responsible the actions of non-Russian users.
So it really is up to the laws of the country you are in whether this is ill-legal (pun intended) or legal.
In general, my answer would be; yes it is illegal, but then again, you are downloading 'zeros and ones'...
Seemingly those zeros and ones are at random, but some strange other pile of zeros and ones, called winamp, converted them magically into audible data that was pleasant to listen to
BTW, the zeros and ones on my website are copyright protected!

I've been wondering about the propper value of a song download.
$1.00 per song sounds like too much as it is almost as much per album as buying a CD.
A CD has to contain the cost of pressing the CD, storage, shipping to retail outlets, markups by the retailers to cover their rent and employee costs ( and anything else I am overlooking).
A download eliminates all of those costs.
25 to 50 cents actually seems reasonable.
Considering that the artist usually gets about $1.00 per CD $0.25 times 10 or 12 songs per album is $2.50 to $3.00. That should leave enough for the artist. I guess.??

The music industry does all sorts of different purchasing deals around the globe. I've bought loads of music and dvd's from the US at much cheaper prices than the UK.
It's up to the record industry to regulate their international commerce not you. Even in the UK and the US the record industry does different deals with music download companies to sell artists music. There is no one set price for anything these days. So who knows whether this is what's happened in Russia. Remember, the record industry is a law until itself when it comes to selling product.
Go for it!

Get it !?Certainly the music on the site isn't licensed by any labels. Yet it seems it can operate in Russia courtesy of a legal loophole that allows music to be performed publicly without the authorisation of the copyright owner if it is broadcast on radio or transmitted over the internet.

Don't know about their legality, but their PayPal account is no longer able to accept payments, and I didn't feel like giving my credit card info to what is probably the Russian MafiaPT wrote:Is anyone familiar with this music download site?
