What a patch! I'm going to have a lot of fun with this one. Many thanks for sharing your work.

I was coming back to say that you shouldn't overlook additive synthesis for boingy, sproingy sounds. A lot of additive synths will let you 'stretch' partials as a dedicated effect, but there's loads of ways you can construct sounds with a messy, boingy attack in an additive synth. I havent really dug into MSF's additive capabilities because I prefer a more 'high level' visual workflow with additive, but I've no doubt you can do it there too.

Inspired to offer an even more boingy variation on the TBZ Factory, this one adds a velocity controlled trem rate to give the effect of snapping a ruler against a table-top with much of the ruler extending beyond it. It also uses a sampler with 128 selectable samples instead of an oscillator to drive the resonators, for a wider range of tones, though the res, the convolver settings and other things tend to be more drama-producing…

The sampler uses one of the Melda factory libraries, so that has to have been downloaded, and may require reading thru this thread to see how exactly to implement it (which is what I did):

Here's what my sampler looks like after setting it up:

So, part of this post is simply a test to see how well sharing a sampler without the samples being included works, for anyone willing! Thanks—and good luck!

EDIT: I guess it doesn't work very well! So, Attachment deleted; see 2 new ones below⬇︎

Of course, any samples can be substituted, at any time, with any sort of mapping… I like to save presets for loaded sample sets so it's easy to swap between them. That's what I did after going through the process described in the linked thread.

Presumably, you could also make Easy Screen banks for doing this within a single instrument, and saving the settings as presets.

Once you do get this working, making sure the trem rate on the Tinger tab Easy Screen is turned up will make the new modulators much more obvious.

Unfortunately I get this issue when loading this version of TBZ. :(

Here's a better version, with all presets remade; arp almost always turned off, and velocity working better on trem rate, plus not changing actual level, so slow rates are just as loud as fast ones.

Doesn't help the sample-loading process unfortunately. I don't get how to do that, except to return to that ref'ed thread for details on targeting Melda Factory sample sets, and to suggest first getting the samples located on a very basic Global preset, then saving that as a preset in the sampler device (IOW, into the preset library that's on the same line as SAMPLER 1 when the Sampler's Edit panel is targeted in EDIT mode), so that you can then access those same samples in any instrument that has the sampler loaded just by loading that preset.

Or just loading some other samples instead, that you have no similar problems with. The main interesting thing in that thread is the discussion on assigning a group of samples to a selector, so they can be easily chosen amongst, each mapped to the entire key-range, and your selections saved per preset.

In the meantime, here's a version of the original (no samples) with velocity set to mod the Trem rate, for similar results to the Sampler version; not quite as interesting because that one has an extra envelop, all new presets, blah blah…. But this one also has the velocity set to not affect the preset level so you can hear the rate differences. Didn't turn off the arp on the existing presets, though, so that's worth doing… fwiw:

Don't miss this:

If that preset shared there works for you, but the TBZ w/Samples still doesn't, please let me know!

Thanks…

TBZ. This thing already has an acronym. It is getting famous ... :)

Post

It's had one from the start as far as I'm concerned; doesn't count when the maker also makes the acronym, I suspect:)

Just like using your own initials doesn't suddenly put your name up in lights.

Now that TBZ is back to being ignored as usual, I guess it's safe to hide in plain sight another twangy, klangy, sometimes-boingy, certainly-banging and definitely fav DPC-on-MSF device, also a modeler, but in this case one that makes much use of MWobbler, and occasionally also Glide, to bend the resonance around. I think it belongs in this thread, anyway…and it'll be good to know where to find it.
With that, I present:
ResoStringDeluxe.zip
No samples. No Arps. Lots of presets.

Haven't had a chance to load these up yet, but I will.

Appreciated.

Same here. I've read the thread about samples and will do it.

Very much look forward to trying FV2TR too!

Thanks David, much appreciated here!
