Come to think of it why would people go to the Synapse forum and "bullshit" about broken songs? What would be the purpose? Maybe it's a conspiracy by Gol to undermine Orion's reputation.

I've had a number of songs not load; and some crashes with FL. I know that makes me a small minority.
I've had the same problem with Orion (but not lately)
and considering how fast I can work with Orion, I'll take my chances with it.
good luck with FL Tek, we know you're a fanboy now

Well, i have, so we'll just dissagree on thatTeksonik wrote:We've been KVR members for about the same length of time Krim and I don't remember seeing "loads" of threads about lost songs in other hosts. The problems ARE usually with dodgy plugs, dodgy samples, or general bad housekeeping on the users part.
Rich is simply trying a new app to help ppl who have said they have lost trax. As it is, only one person has sent him a file, so i guess all the ppl who complained before were bullshitting.

Interestingly, the one song that I repeatedly had problems with recently fixed itself when I replaced three other VSTi with little killerz. That tends to indicate to me that it was definitely somethig to do with one of the plugins. I had always put it down to using beta versions but this song is now bulletproof, just like the other couple of hundred ORION project files I have.
I know that lots of people have problems with stability but I sincerely do not get it as, since about version 2, it has always been incredibly reliable for me. Way more reliable that FL was at the same time, despite it having been around for about 5 times longer. I'm sure Fruity is more stable now and I know that 99% of the users who have had problems in the past now find ORION to be pretty solid, since version 5.1 or so.

I disagree that we should disagree. I think we should go out for a couple of pints and forget about all this software nonsense for a while.Kriminal wrote:Well, i have, so we'll just dissagree on thatTeksonik wrote:We've been KVR members for about the same length of time Krim and I don't remember seeing "loads" of threads about lost songs in other hosts. Just to give an example. I recently purchased a license for Discovery 2. I worked with it in FL Studio for several hours and for some reason decided to try it in Orion(latest release version). I loaded Discovery, went to load a patch bank and boom crash.Less than thirty seconds. Plugin's fault or Host's? I've been using Discovery for hours on end in FL since and not one problem. I agree that Orion is much more stable in the later versions than before but it still remains the most unstable app I own. Sorry I've had enough let's all three go down to pub and raise a few.BONES wrote:Interestingly, the one song that I repeatedly had problems with recently fixed itself when I replaced three other VSTi with little killerz. That kind of thing probably comes down to the fact that the Fruity userbase definitely warrants testing whereas ORION probably doesn't so if it doesn't work in Fruity the developer will probably find and fix the problem before release.

LOL. dodgy VST's? The same dodgy VST's do not kill songs made in other sequencers. Besides with all the bugs we've all found and continue to find in Orion, it's pointless to continue attempting to blame plugins. If Orion were a closed system, I'd still have found a record number of bugs for someone who isn't even a beta tester. The vast majority of bugs that I've personally found have nothing to do with plugins.Kriminal wrote:This is for ppl who have trouble loading old files, usually with old dodgy VST's.

That's ridiculous. Your comments just make you look more and more foolish the more you try. I know you're trying to do good for Orion, but you're probably doing more harm by talking like a fool. Saying that people who believe Orion to be buggy are in the minority is equally ridiculous. Even CM has stated it once. The first time I saw a reader's comments about Orion in CM were about it being buggy. In a poll here on KVR most readers believed that Orion was buggy. Every time you read the word Orion, it seems that "bugs and instability" are not far off.Kriminal wrote:Ive seen loads of threads here about ppl who cannot load or have lost songs in FL, Cubarse etc, its not uncommon.

Also, I've sent enough songs to Rich over the years for him to see that there's a problem, yet Orion keeps right on eating songs year after year. This problem is here to stay like other problems in Orion which appear to be unfixable. It's greatly improved since Orion version 1.x when I started using Orion, but the bugs just keep right on coming and some of the old ones don't go away.

Used the demo for quite some time here, afrom V1, never had a prob, so it must be your PC.Teksonik wrote:Just to give an example. I recently purchased a license for Discovery 2. I've been using Orion for years and I had a broken song problem only once (2 years ago) and I used Orion a lot, saved and reloaded hundreds of songs and I can still reload my Orion Pro 3 songs in Orion Plat 5.5.
Currently I'm often working with another musician who's using Orion Pro and different plugins than the ones I have and we never had any problem transferring songs.
The problem I had was with DR008 wich I quickly deleted and since then no problems. I'm not saying that DR008 is not good, just that it was causing a problem in that particular instance.
I've tried way too many plugins in way too many hosts and I've encountered way too many problems. And I've often seen plugins working fine with one host not working so fine with another host. I have 3 computers and some programs (not just music software) work well on one of my computers but not on one of the others. And it's not always the newest one that works best.
My personal rule now is the least plugins is the better and it saves time when I have to make creative decisions.
Btw, even if I use other hosts, I prefer Orion over any of them even if it's not perfect and no host or plugin is.

HI
This is a strange thread really; don't people think so?
I recently ordered Orion (still bloody waiting for it - now that is a bug!) based on using the DEMO for well over a year and admittedly I have not been able to save projects (and test out the possibility of crashes in developing my compositions) but what I have been using it for is as a test bed for 100's of demo app's that I have downloaded, now I don't have a problem saying that yes I have had a fair share of crashes but to a tee they have been directly related to the loaded plug-in, beyond this I have not had to re-install Orion even though the vst folder has become obeste with plug-ins and also had wholesale clear outs and I have still had no random crashes.
Why would I spend almost £200 on a host that crashes like the clappers for no apparent reason?
I hope that I don't have problems with the full version and am sure that people here that are reporting problems indeed have suffered; but then again I seem to have similar problems with Logic 5.5 on my PC, whereas others don't.
I believe that there are badly coded bug ridden products out there and there are also tempremental ones as well that given a certain mix of ingredients are not very happy - perhaps this is where Orion falls?
NO host likes having plug-ins removed that are used in save songs - I have had some REAL problems in Logic around this although if its just a matter of updating a plug then this has never been an issue.
At the end of the day its nice to be aware of problems with programs - in particular if your thinking of buying it but if you have moved on for whatever reason (from that product)is there much point in getting hot under the collar about it - if anything if it was such a problem for you but others did not have the same issues then at best it falls under the guise of being a quirky almost unexplainable situation.
I have spoken to LOTS of people about Orion and am aware that it may have some issues, I gauged them to be no more serious than the ones I face with Logic and have experienced on practically all the other programs I have used; bar Reason - which is pretty well rock solid for obvious reasons.
Saying that if I have an unacceptable level of issues once I start using the full version of Orion I will have no problem excercising my vocal chords here and at Synapse!
Flipper.

I honestly havent seen many lost songs threads on other hosts either (as Teksonik said).. I peruse these 'halls' about as much as you do.. did I just randomly miss them or might your affiliation with synapse as a lead beta tester (and even thanked in the credits page) be bluring reality?
I love orion too though.. even if it is buggy.. and it is overly buggy.. I just wish Rich would admit to it and maybe deal with it.
I think its all in the way Orion handles 3rd party plugins (namely VSTi's) ..oh and btw.. I've had Orion Plat crash on its own synths before too (just recently AAMOF)... although thats only happened a couple times in a couple years (the crashing on OP's own plugins).
and sure, I'm betting you'd fire back saying 'well you're the minority, its rock solid here' but if its randomly (admittedly not EXTREMLY often) crashing on me how many others are not coming forward thats it occuring to as well? I'd say statistics would say I'm probably not alone.
and it is not meant as an attack on you or synapse audio.. just because something seemingly negative is coming out doesnt mean we need to instantly sweep it under the rug and deny it exists... at least thats my opinion.
If you really want to beta test and have a program debugged.. maybe it would be a good thing to look at those computers and setups that are having major problems and definitively find out the exact cause of the crashing (be it host, plugin, OS etc) ..instead of completely denying its entirely the host's fault from the getgo.
