Going back to a pattern based workflow is a bit nostalgic since I first started making music on trackers.
It's alright but I do feel that there's a major issue of qol and workflow.
The whole needing to manually assign stuff to the mixer is a bit of a hassle when in just about every other DAW the names and stuff translate across the whole project
Renaming and coloring the pattern, mixer channel, and arrangement track gets annoying.

AND DONT SAY INSTRUMENT TRACKS! :dog:
It's not the same and feels bad trying to use them

Wonderful update. It's already 20.8.2 and works like a charm. With the frequency splitter thingy and the linear phase updates I can now fully build any effect in patcher. And all that as a free update... I hope Imageline never changes the workflow or anything. There's no need in making a Cubase or Logic competitor, staying unique is the key and the users like that. Besides that it already can do almost all the conventional stuff other DAWs can.

It's only pattern based if you want it to be. Try dropping plugins on Playlist tracks.

FL has been created to able to do things like this easily

routing is not great, not terrible but secondary

It's crazy. I'm dying to find a free pattern based DAW as it makes composition so darn easy but so many people don't like pattern based. I suppose it depends upon the individual's mindset. I have loved all the FL Studio demos I have tried and I would crawl through the streets of Gothenburg to have the money to buy a full copy.

For music production i can’t imagine something better than fl studio,is immediate and super smooth,i think is a question of mindset, but for me,there isn’t anything better than fl for produce a track,is fast and professional, the only others that i can considerate are ableton and logic (bitwig maybe)

Yeah, I've noticed on almost every tutorial video how often the presenters emphasize the importance of consistent naming and color coding across the channel rack, patterns, arrangement, mixer etc... I could see large projects becoming pretty unwieldy if you didn't do this. I'm surprised it isn't more automated, or least had the option. I like the way Reason handles this. You can break the name-link at any time by renaming further down the dependency chain, or restore the name-link back again by clearing it.

Feels bad? What does that mean? If you use them, then it works as you want.

You just need to start using the workflow provided. You will get used to it and understand it in no time. You can even hide the Channel Rack once you start working this way.

The system also allows for hybrid old vs new workflow as you need.

It is automated. It's called Instrument track workflow.

I tried the latest version a few weeks back but unninstalled it quickly.
I like to use Step recording from keyboard sometimes but it only records 16ths notes and i prefer 8th.
Setting the Snap or note lenght to 8th only worked when i used the Mouse and not with step Recording.

Is there a way to do this?

Setting the global snap, not the Piano roll to 1/2 beats will input quantize your MIDI to 1/8th notes

^^^ and don't forget the pedal :D "Sustain pedal: If you have a 'sustain pedal', press it to 'jump steps'." https://www.image-line.com/fl-studio-le ... g_step.htm pretty handy and the line feature
"...the note length is equal to the snap size in the Snap Panel. 'Line' is useful as the Piano roll Zoom level then controls the note length..."

I tried it a couple of years back but it doesn't work the same as FL Studio. I like being able to just store simple midi patterns as pattern 01, pattern 02 etc, then just paste each one into a song editor. AFAIK the only pattern editor in LMMS is a drum editor and it doesn't work the same way.
