I was getting worried that turned into abandonware.
Anything new for guitarists?

Glad to hear it, some updates are long overdue. And they need to make the bass version polyphonic already.ElVincente wrote: Sat Dec 18, 2021 8:38 amJamosapiens forum... closer ro a real amp, with
more dynamics and dirt of a real amp.
I do not buy IK products any more.
There is a comparison video where you
can clearly hear it

You can't compare random patches like that. It sounds all over the place. You are comparing lead sounds heavily drenched in delay and reverb to dry, cranked patches. What's the point? Of course they will sound completely different.
If you want a correct comparison, at least pull Mark IIC+ or Mark V in Mark II mode from Mesa Boogie Collection 2 and compare it to Archetype Petrucci by dialing both amps and cabs to relatively similar settings. That at least will be somewhat fair.

All that counts for me is what an amp sim plugin sounds like no matter whether it's Marshall, Fender, Mesa or whatever
If a Fender amp sim sounds better than some Mesa amp sim, why should I go for Mesa?! When I track my guitar, I also first choose an amp that sounds good for the mix. Pretty good preset walkthrough imo
it shows clearly that Amplitube is closer to a real amp.
If you compared real guitars it would also make more sense to compare a Yamaha, Gibson, Fender etc. How boring would it be to compare 5 or more Fender Teles.
When I bought my guitar I also tried all kind of different models and brands.
The most boring comparisons are plugin comparisons like 1176, LA2A and so on
And when you perceive a slight difference, are you happy then?
Music is variety of sounds and possibilities and not comparing and analyzing more or less same plugins to death.

Doh, I get that old feeling again when I recognize I'm talking to an amateur (And a fool).
Why would you compare Strat to Les Paul? Strat does its own thing LP can't do and LP can do what Strat can't. Same for Tele, same for SG, same for Rickenbacker and any other guitar. What is there to compare? They all have their own strengths and unique features and tone.
You're also wrong about comparing similar types of guitars. Two Strats and two Teles can sound quite different depending on various factors. If you don't know that already, you should quit discussing guitars altogether.
Why would you compare a dry Fender combo to a processed high gain amp, which you drenched in delay and reverb? If you want Fender for what it does, use Fender. And use Mesa Mark or Rectifier for their own strengths.
At least remove all FX from the presets and compare barebone dry tones, then talk "dirt" and "real". What dirt can you get from something completely drown in reverb? You should match amp settings, cab settings, remove the effects, then open your mouth.
Your comparison is invalid and lame. Go do your homework, lazy man. You should compare dry tones to dry tones and modulated tones to modulated. When you learn these basics, then you may come back. Dismissed.

Sorry, you are completely off-topic. Of course a Gibson is different to a Steat and a strat to a tele. That's what it's all about to find the sound you like. Plugins are for making music. Music is not just an analytic thing, your mindset is obviously completely different from mine. It makes no sense to me to compare similar things, different things are exciting and worth being reviewed. And of course I compared a Strat to a SG and some more completely different guitars, when I bought my first guitar to find out what I like best. The one who says someone is a fool and thinks he knows everything better and can't accept different views is a fool, but that's no secret

he may be rude, but hes also right, you cant compare one dry with one covered in fx, the fx one is obviously going to sound more "interesting".DCrown wrote: Sun Dec 19, 2021 8:13 pm Sorry, you are completely off-topic. nothing wrong with choosing those tools if you like them (i love my fx) but when it comes to comparisons, you try to at least have them aim at sounding the same, then you can say "this one is more like a real amp than this one" whereas if you compare fx to dry, youre listening to the fx as much as the amp.

There are no dry examples as far as I can see, neither on neural, nor on softube or amplitube. It's a preset walkthrough of different amp sims and presets are different
clean, crunchy, high gain.
If you expect to hear similar amp sounds,
well, then a preset walkthrough might not
be the right choice.
And I completely disagree, I do not want to
Watch a review where every plugin sounds the same like in a stupid 1176 or LA2A or whatever comparison.
Or the kind of reviews where someone compares how close a plugin is to hardware.
That's so boring, it's only important if a plugin is good for you, whether you can or want to use it or not.

thats fine, maybe its a language thing, but "comparison" is not right here is all.DCrown wrote: Sun Dec 19, 2021 8:31 pm There are no dry examples as far as I can see, neither on neural, nor on softube or amplitube. It's a preset walkthrough of different amp sims and presets are different

nothing wrong with choosing which you like of course, and i dont really like those videos where they test a few of the same thing either. but the two are different things.

That video is inane. A plugin shootout where completely unrelated and heavily effected amp models are played through with not even a single adjustment made on anything. No attempt to actually compare the models, just play through random presets in random order over a random and unnecessary drum backing. Whoo boy what a mess. I would make absolutely no decisions based on that one, except maybe how did I like the looks of them.
But unlike so many others when comparing stuff, this fellow at least kept playing the same thing over and over again. That is good, so not all is lost, just things to improve. Way too many speak over the changes, change over different sections of a song or have breaks between the changes. That's not good, our ability to recall tonal differences is pretty short lived and easily distracted with changing conditions. On the other end are the twitchy types who keep changing too fast, no time to imprint the characteristics into memory before things have already changed. These errors keep showing up even in videos from "comparison pros" with a long history.
Personal tests are always the best. But sometimes it's nice to get some initial idea of what is maybe worth testing from soundclips and videos. I'm not quite sure in this case if I would like to test either one further, but I'm sure I would have to test both if having to choose between them.

Hi! First of all my channel is new, every feedback helps me to improve, so thanks.
I am not goin to do somethin someone else is already doin whether it's music genre, video editin or a review method.
I am not limited to one music genre and in this video I was inspired by a Miles and JohnMcLaughlin live performance.
I am aware of the fact that many a man is not
into experimental fusion, but I do like Laughlin,
Miles, Zappa and more, the weirder, the better.
I could make my videos in a professional studio
of a friend of mine with an analog console and many instruments around, but I prefer doin it in
my homestudio, there I have everythin I need and know.
Imo as for VST instruments and amp sims presets play an important role to judge a plugin.
In most cases you can not even demo a VST instrument.
Amplitube has too many presets frankly speakin, that's why I put my fav ones in folders and also saved my own presets. What else to write about Amplitube? I think there is somethin for everyone.
NeuralDSP Petrucci. This plugin is of course more for music like dream theater, but it's not
limited to it.
Softube Amp Room, I can not tell for sure, but
maybe more for modern guitar sounds.
I use Amp Room as a fx plugin mainly, I like the reverb and API emus.
Blacksun is a freebie, so nothin to complain about.
I am goin to keep on includin different music genres in my videos and sometimes I track my songs without a metronome click, a fixed bpm I don't use every time and especially quantization never, even though I know it would be smarter to focus on one genre to get more subscribers.
So I do comprehend the complaints, I also watch reviews and sometimes think the information you get is nice, but the music is bad. You can not please everyone.
The topic of this thread is "anythin new for guitarists" and yes Amplitube 5 upgrade is great, I recommend tryin Neural DSP Petrucci, Blacksun is free and Nembrini released some cool Marshall amp sim and some more this year and Audio Assault, as well
Does anyone know some news about Scuffham S-Gear? Last update or upgrade is quite long ago.

@plugintester
I watched some of yr videos and what I like most
is the fact that u surprise each time with a completely
different mix and music style.
Yr videos are simple but I like that u are not
commenting and talking too much
and maybe I also like that u are not showing off
with a big studio and expensive gear well a Fender Strat is not the worst guitar.
I also watch Warren Huart or Dan Worrall. Warren is more into analog gear his plugin reviews are not that good I saw him several times using a plugin on a normalized track and he seems to have 3 different mixes only a bit repetetive.
Dan Worrall knows a lot but his mixes are pain to my ears.
I also like yr amp sim video even tho´ the music is pretty weird.
Imo the only good way to compare plugins is to show the presets and some features.
4 amp sim plugins I have Amplitube and yr video tells me that I do not have
to spend money on some other amp sim plugin. I do not intend to demo neuraldsp
cuz Petrucci is not a guitarist I like.
Keep it up!
and it´s really strange that there still is no upgrade to V3 of S-Gear.
More than 1 year ago I thought I´d wait for an upgrade and see whether
I´d buy it or not.

Thanks for the response plugintester.
Thanks for your thoughts about the tested gear and for the glimpse into your methods.
I think that is fine, as well as your personal approach to testing and music chosen. I also realize myself being an ass, critisizing your amp sim video about things it was maybe not even meant to present. I apologize for that.Plugintester wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 6:57 am I could make my videos in a professional studio of a friend of mine with an analog console and many instruments around, but I prefer doin it in my homestudio, there I have everythin I need and know.
