[ABOUT MELLO-FI REGISTRATION & WHETHER IT'S FREE OR NOT]
Hey guys! So, here's the deal because there's a bit of confusion (even for me actually haha) :
- If you get the plugin from Plugin Boutique : It'll give you a code that will allow you to register the plugin to Arturia. So after getting your Serial and Unlock code in your My Products section of Plugin Boutique, you'll be able to redeem the plugin at Arturia. All you'll have to do is to install the plugin through the Software Center and it should be activated. I just did that and got the serial instantly.
- If you get the plugin from Arturia directly : Arturia will tell you that the order has been received and that they'll send you an email. The email took quite a few hours to arrive in my inbox (ordered last night, got it this morning). I can understand that, because I've seen a lot of people talking about the plugin. They must have had massive traffic on the website.
[DISCLAIMER ABOUT PLUGIN BOUTIQUE]
The plugin boutique link (as stated) is an affiliate link. I do not get paid by Arturia to promote their products and I don't think they even know about my stuff. I purchased their FX Collection 2 on Black Friday and bought the V Collection sometime ago. I really like what they do and that's all there is to it. If you purchase through this link and make other purchases at the same time, I'll get a commission. So, do it if you'd like to support me. If not go to https://www.arturia.com/ directly.
[ABOUT THE PLUGIN BEING FREE]
Yes, it is free! It doesn't look like a cut-down version of another plugin. It's Arturia's way of introducing their new line of products. They did that a couple of times in that past. They release their plugins in series of three. So there should be two more coming out soon (that will be paid this time...). Kind of a way for them to encourage you to try out their stuff and buy the rest if you like it. But really, this is a great one in its own right. I have quite a few tape plugins and this definitely has got its own thing!

"activation didn't take much time".ThomC wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 12:51 pmThe Plugin Boutique link will give you two codes that then leads you to Arturia's registration page. The reason I share Plugin Boutique's links is that I'm affiliated with them. I'll write another post in the thread about this. You'll have to wait a bit for Arturia to send you an email telling you that your product is registered. The plugin is massively popular and we all have to wait quite a bit. But it's worth it!Harry_HH wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 12:11 pm Is the pluginboutique immediate download link?
Namely, when I went to my Arturia account, and tried to download the Mello, it says "due to the high demand no downloads" or something like that. The Arturia Software Center didn't offer the Mello either.
So far more bad than good will because of this present.
Yes, the activation didn't take much time. You just have a pop-up window that tells you to activate the plugin, once you click on the activation button it instantly connects to your account and the plugin is activated. To me, it's a worthy effort considering the quality of the plugin. I mean... getting something like that in the hardware world would cost loads, and be much more tedious.rasmusklump wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 12:27 pm I think as it is Arturia it needs to be activated although it is free?
If so I am not interested.
Hmm.. What is "much" here? I took the guided procedure few hours ago in Arturia's site. No plugins so far.
I wonder why they can't just add the license to the account of all existing clients, why this complicated, time consuming procedure?

Update:Just got the plugin.

Haha no worries at all! It isn't exactly a short videochk071 wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 12:56 pm Alright.I must admit that I haven't watched the whole video, I fast forwarded to the electric piano example, because it's more relevant for what I would do.

I sometimes boot up the Scarbee Mark1 from NI, not often though. I just searched for something which would be similar to the synths sounds I usually do, and that was it.ThomC wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 1:09 pmHaha no worries at all! Sorry, bit of confusion here. The activation when you get the codes after redeeming the plugin doesn't take much time. But the part about waiting for the codes to redeem the plugin does take some time (though, I got the codes instantly when getting it at Plugin Boutique).Harry_HH wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 1:09 pm "activation didn't take much time".

That's a good question. To be honest I don't know. Maybe people would complain about having something they didn't order (that happens...). Or yeah... actually it could be tied to their analytics and who's ordering the plugin or not (I'm just guessing here).

Do you do a lot of 'retro sounding' stuff? I must say that regarding grittier / vintagey synth sounds, I'm really impressed by Generate by Newfangled Audio.chk071 wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 1:13 pm

I am trying to get rid of that Plugin Boutique 30 day trial version but the "deactivate" button in my account does not work (and neither does the "remove from my account" button).
I also tried to get the plugin directly from Arturia but they emailed me the same serial and unlock codes I got from Plugin Boutique and it remains a 30 day trial. It seems Arturia does not add a new license if there is already one active in your account.

So I would strongly advise not to use the codes from Plugin Boutique.
@ThomC, please understand that I am not blaming you, because there was no way you could know this.

Actually, I think that the Plugin Boutique codes may work, but I don't think they do once you've ordered the plugin from Arturia already (which makes sense). I've got the same issue here. So what I'd do is pick one or the other not both.mountainmaster wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 1:51 pm I am trying to get rid of that Plugin Boutique 30 day trial version but the "deactivate" button in my account does not work (and neither does the "remove from my account" button).

I got two different serials on my end though...

Why not? This plugin took time and money to develop. I don't think that's a bad thing personally

Update: I was was confused by the slowness of Arturia. I actually managed to remove the trial version from my account but the changes did not show up until much later.ThomC wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 2:06 pm

And the Arturia unlimited license has also appeared in my account now. So all is well that ends well.
The fact remains though that the Plugin Boutique license gave me an expiration date. So I have to maintain my advise not to use their version.
People who want to support ThomC can still get it for free from PB as long as you don't use those codes to register at Arturia.

Yes, if people already ordered at Arturia, it's unlikely that the PB version will workmountainmaster wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 2:48 pm Update: I was was confused by the slowness of Arturia. I'm glad it works now though! Let me know what you think about it

Thanks so much man! I'm still trying to make my videos better. I can't please everybody obviously. My goal would be to make the whole thing a journey, almost as if I wasn't really talking about a plugin but a whole contextual presentationAgreed wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 4:00 pm Thom, you do good work on these, man.
