One of the few Audiority plugins I don't already have, mainly because of the name "The Abuser". In the UK the word Abuser has very negative connotations, mainly around child abuse. Releasing MkII was a missed opportunity to change the name imho.

Having said that, I am going to demo MKII later, as it seems to have a great reputation as a plugin. :)

As a non native speaker and non UK person, I couldn't imagine that word could have such a negative connotation in the UK. You talk about a missed opportunity, but I never knew that was a problem in the first place, since in 8 years nobody ever told me anything about the plugin name being such an issue. Not via email, nor via support form, not even in the forum threads where I regularly post updates sine the released of the product back in 2014.

Said that, I'll leave this update unchanged for now. I'll decide later if i'll take down the product and re-release it with a brand new name, GUI and features... because looks like that even the GUI color is now a problem, like a user on YT pointed out :dog:

Cheers,
Luca

I personally don’t think you need to change it, but maybe instead of an mk3 someday you just release a new product. It’s no rush - i think some customers/fans just wanted you to be aware the word is more “charged” (connotation) over time.

I also think it looks good. Far better looking than a new plugin by another company who’s name starts with A!

Most important is that it sounds really good, too. And seems to strike a decent balance in terms of complexity. I ALWAYS try Audiority plugins, even if I don’t end up buying every single one of them (but definitely some!). I’ll be giving this a long demo and see if I’ll end up listing a different distortion plugin for sale to make room for this one. Virtually speaking.

Thanks, Luca, for providing increasingly awesome plugins with extremely reasonable prices. It’s been clear to me for some time they’re a labor of love.

MkII looks and sounds fine to me. I like the name too. You can't please everyone.

The colour is fine. Pretty sure the people complaining about it are trolls. I'm a native English speaker and the name is fine with me too.

has the word 'abuse' ever had positive connotations? also it's kind of a tradition to use words that refer to misuse, destruction, danger and harm for naming gear, esp. distortion units and synths. in the context of audio i'd say it has positive connotations. i wouldn't decapitate anyone irl, but i sure as hell like to decapitate some audio. the same goes for abusing, decimation, trashing and smashing. there's a whole thread for names like these. i mean, one could argue that the word "distort" itself has negative connotations, esp. in the context of media manipulation, fake news etc.
