What is the future of Bitwig?

You're pretty spot on that they realized what the original sales pitch was trying to push so they have all this implemented already, but I think it's not like they hit a brick wall .. they still are the same brilliant people that implemented all this creative things that bitwig has which noone else have, and some stuff others ended up copying from them, so I have total confidence in their ability to keep creating stuff that's gonna surprise us.

Ask Magic 8-Ball
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

What’s wrong with my internal chord detection and scale mode?pierb wrote: Wed Mar 09, 2022 5:52 pmLOLpdxindy wrote: Wed Mar 09, 2022 4:59 am Bitwig will continue to open itself to fresh and creative ways of doing tasks instead of entrenching itself in the stale old DAW paradigm.![]()
Video support, Atmos, chord detection, scale mode, etc. Those features are definitely not stale![]()

I see no evidence of it opening up to the traditional DAW market. Studio One was built from the ground up to be a traditional linear DAW and has made very little effort in trying to attract the experimental market. Bitwig started off as a Live competitor and is doing well in that market and has no reason to change its strategy.pierb wrote: Thu Mar 03, 2022 4:17 pm
Will it continue to entrench itself into being the "experimental DAW"? Will it open itself to the more traditional DAW market like Studio One did?

What chord detection and scale mode?
(hopefully with scale mode you don't mean the hack of adding notes in another layer or using the piano roll in the folded/drum mode)
For inspiration this is how Ableton Live does scale mode:
This is how Studio One does chord detection and chord tracks:

Yeah, and that's perfectly fine, but I wish there was some transparency regarding what direction Bitwig is going to take in the following years.dellboy wrote: Fri Mar 11, 2022 1:17 pm I see no evidence of it opening up to the traditional DAW market.
True, but they have introduced modulators and a couple of other features like the extended FX routing.Studio One was built from the ground up to be a traditional linear DAW and has made very little effort in trying to attract the experimental market.
Live also started experimental but introduced more "traditional" features like video and scales.Bitwig started off as a Live competitor and is doing well in that market and has no reason to change its strategy.

I think the poster means the one in his or her head. I have them too. They're pretty cool. You should get your own if you haven't already. They're basically free now. Yeah, there's a waiting list for them but it's totally worth it in the end.

I have Cubase and S1 and I find chord detection a great tool. I play all my stuff in live mostly as audio and when I am messing around with chord progressions I often forget what I just played. But no worries, I just drag the wave into the chord track and its all mapped out ready to play along with. Maybe you have the skill and the ear to detect chords, and if you do, kudos to you, but for us lesser mortals its great tool to have.JHernandez wrote: Fri Mar 11, 2022 10:09 pm

I was just pointing out what I thought the poster meant and making a bit of a joke out of it based on some truth.dellboy wrote: Fri Mar 11, 2022 11:53 pmI have Cubase and S1 and I find chord detection a great tool. At least you didn't go with the I actually know my stuff but still use chord track, ect to come up with stuff I probably wouldn't have thought of line. Although a classic, it's kinda overdone at this point.
I kid, I kid.

live has more of the traditional daw stuff than bitwig though, bitwigs niche is definitely experimental stuff but a lot of people are both composers and experimental sound designers and would ideally like something that has features for bothdellboy wrote: Fri Mar 11, 2022 1:17 pm I see no evidence of it opening up to the traditional DAW market. i didnt hear that it has modulators now, i cant see anything about that, as in they have lfos etc that you can mod anything with? i can only see that they have mod effects like tremolo, filter etcpierb wrote: Fri Mar 11, 2022 8:58 pm Studio One have introduced modulators and a couple of other features like the extended FX routing.

I am a music production newbie, but I do come from a techie visual design background. Which is why I chose Bitwig because what is implemented works very well, and it has a lot of advanced capability for customization and sound design that I could see myself getting into.
But it could be better composing focused. For example, I experimented with FL Studio. Why can't Bitwig exceed (not just equal) the features and usability of FL Studio's piano roll? What other major composing elements could be better developed to be the best in the market?
