The piano roll editor (p-seq) in version 1.5 can be turned into a step sequncer at the press of a button.Combined with the integrated step sequencer (that can be turned into a piano roll), you have instant drum sequencing ease.
I'm not sure what a sampler channel is I'm afraid. But with P5 you drag a audio sample into the arrange window and it will become a track automatically. Because wav files are treated as groove clips, you can then roll it out into multiple instnaces. In fact the wav file can be opened in p-seq and the end point adjusted (just like any other pattern) and this will effect the roll out of that sample. If you want the same sample with different end points just duplicate it in p-seq and change the end point before putting it in the arrangement window.wav sample and drag it to the center of the screen, and that automatically creates a sampler channel with no fuss
