Without a reason, we can’t really make any good suggestion because we don’t know if op really need a new daw if they already have FL or Logic. While I get people think higher the resolution the better, but we can’t really hear the difference under ~5ms of delay.

For BPM in 120, that means there are two beats per second, dividing them with 512 means the smallest resolution is around 975μs. I wanna know why such high resolution is needed for making music, and for what purpose.

In tracker softwares, we only have 6 TPL to begin with, effectively 24 PPQ, but it doesn’t stop people making complex and quick breakcore music.

There are always simple tricks to solve the problem before pulling the trigger to buy a new plugins or daws, like increasing the BPM, sampling, or changing PPQ Settings (FL can goes up to 960 PPQ in Midi settings).

96PPQ should be all you need (and is what most software will export midi at). Midi on the wire is typically 24PPQ.

If you're into audio... well, that's a whole other thing, but then you probably should be working in samples.

Unless the tempo is equally something so slow that a DAW may well have preferred not to do* in its coding, that fast is rhythmically absolutely meaningless, it will be undifferentiated noise. A 128th note is extreme. However one might approach "granular" like in the old days as Ligeti did with micropolyphony. I would never approach this problem with that type of operation though.

In terms of editing MIDI in a piano roll editor I set Cubase to 1000 per 16th note display resolution. No, that has nothing to do with tempo or speed. I can divvy things up in a decimal system in my head (is why I don't go with "960" the way Steinberg thinks of time. It won't export a MIDI file any finer than 960 per quarter note.) and I like that much granularity to work with (*: I remember when 30 BPM was the lower limit.).

People with questions like this will always need "a new DAW" or other excuse.

I initially raised this topic because I felt that my drums lacked the desired swing. I aimed for better grid resolution to precisely position them, but I've come to realize that this isn't the solution. There are better methods to achieve the right groove and feeling.

Simplicity holds beauty, and when music creation becomes overly complex you are doing something wrong.

Fl has incredible quantize options. Love studio one but can't see why it doesn't have further personalisation possibilities here.

Live will go down to 1/2048. It's not in the menu, but you can use the decrease command to get there.

Renoise allows custom LPB and TPL. And I think you mean LPB rather than TPL, TPL doesn't affect timing of notes (just note effects). I was always a fan of 12 or 16 LPB.
Linux version?
