I like that idea . . . finger drum through the song (either hitting C2/bass drum on controller or banging on desk). Is it easy enough to create a linear tempo map in most DAWs that changes throughout? I never did that as I usually confine myself to a set tempo.

CRUD!!... i thought this was gonna be about off-grid composing like on 12 volts or whatever out in a cabin... Which would be an interesting topic with WW3 being enacted...

Arguru's Aodix 4.2 (which is free) has 'tickless' environment drag notes anywhere even under each other same for 'recording into it'...
