A question about Diva's sound

As I pointed out, they do produce frequencies below the fundamental.
Anyhow, I see you're persistent and a written answer by me is not enough, and whatever The Legend (or Sylenth fwiw) does differently than Diva bothers you. I can't help out with more, so maybe send your findings to our support team, at least one of the guys there has already done a few tests that support my theory.

I can't tell what is authentic since I have never played a Minimoog. I noticed that Diva sounds different and dirty, and merely wanted to know if the way it behaves is like on the original and hence correct.
Doesn't anyone here have a hardware Minimoog?

As Urs noted, Intermodulation Distortion is pure physics. It WILL happen - unless someone does something to fudge the physics. I would not be at all surprised if many Devs claimed perfect analog-ful-ness whilst delivering something completely else.
There are many in DAWville who make all sorts of wacky claims that excite the credulous into building whole non-realities. Sadly this is no longer just limited to the likes of MIDI Packs but used wholesale by some very large/popular names.
Ok, yes a short audio snippet: I hear Intermodulation, it has that grindy feel. Aliasing is far more bitcrushy. A way to check this is if you play one one note (or OSC) and it is clear but two makes that 'two fighting each other' feel. That is Intermodulation. One OSC making the same sound could be Aliasing as Nyquist would be bounced off of, no matter how many notes/OSC were being played.
Welcome my friend to reality the show which never ends

Diva sounds quite mellow actually, compared to some other attempts to sound like a Minimoog.Odd Fella wrote: Fri Nov 03, 2023 11:47 pm I noticed that Diva sounds different and dirty, and merely wanted to know if the way it behaves is like on the original and hence correct.

But as you say, she sounds dirty to you. As you noted in other threads, you don't like the sound of Diva or Repro (too harsh etc.) and you also say you don't care for authenticity. That's bit of a surprise considering the effort you put into this thread and the question regarding the original behaviour above.
This feels like you're trying to make it our job to explain to you why you dislike our products, but that isn't why we run this forum.

For smoother polyphonic sounds with less "crunch" with the Mini oscillators
- turn down the osc levels, use levels with a maximum of 50% each
- turn down / don't use feedback
- often 2 osc are enough
- don't use osc stacking / unison features
- use the ladder filter in 2 pole mode
And make use of the hp filter in your daw's channel eq.

This thread isn't about Diva.
Odd Fella wrote:I don't like the sound character of either one, frankly. I don't care about authentic analog sound, in fact, I probably dislike it.Since the highest Quality of Diva is also the lowest Quality of Repro, thats the Answer.
I only want a subtractive synth because I know how it works, not because I want that harsh analog sound.

FWIW we were able to reproduce the same low frequency content with Legend and even with Sylenth. Clearly, the culprit is Intermodulation Distortion in the filter section, depending on the interval of oscillators and gain/drive.

Sorry, but since you chickened out in my thread by closing it...
In Diva it seems hardwired into the sound, though, so you can't get rid of it.
I assume Synapse added the Drive knob for a reason...
Sylenth1 is not really a Minimoog emulation to begin with, despite the Ladder filter. With all the wave stacking and detuning it is not supposed to grind.
In both Sylenth1 and Legend you deliberately have to make it distort and grind by dialing in a lot of Drive manually (and even then it won't sound the same; feel free to send me the Sylenth1 patch if you claim otherwise). But you don't have to if you want a clean sound.FWIW we were able to reproduce the same low frequency content with Legend and even with Sylenth. Clearly, the culprit is Intermodulation Distortion in the filter section, depending on the interval of oscillators and gain/drive.
