DeepMind 12 is great for polyphony, obviously, so if you need the polyphony, then go for it. The Minilogue is great if you can survive with just four voices. The Minilogue OG/Bass is very different to the XD version though, so make sure you're buying with the right idea.
If you don't mind doing without a keyboard (both DeepMind and Minilogue have desktop versions) then the Pro-800 is also an obvious choice, not exactly a prophet 5 but close, and with 8 voice polyphony, you can't go wrong.

I’ve always said the Deepmind is a fantastic value, I just think people need to manage their expectations a bit. It’s not a Juno 106 II.Scotty wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 3:31 pm I don't doubt your ears. I'd say the Deepmind covers the same territory but it isn't a clone of any specific Juno. I looked at the OP's question more broadly in terms of budget and expanding the palette.
zerocrossing wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 3:09 pm I really question those who are saying the Deepmind is basically a Juno 106. There’s some overlap, but I found the filter generally sounds very different. Someone asked me if I could match a Juno Alpha sound with it, and I couldn’t even get close. Not even when I had the parameters listed out for me. The filter is much harsher sounding when resonance is applied. The VCA seems to distort much sooner.

I own a Juno 6 and an Alpha Juno, I also own a Deepmind 12. The Deepmind can get in the ballpark of the Juno 6. The Alpha has its own sound due to the special envelopes on board. The two junos are currently packed away and I only have the Deepmind in use. I do have Softube 84 VST and a quick run through of the Deepmind (Jorb Juno presets) and the 84 yield similar results.

This Loopop video is by far the best overview and guide on the Wavestate. Applies to the native version as well.zerocrossing wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 3:06 pmI might check it out too, though I wasn’t that into the demo videos I’ve seen so far, but maybe I could bend it to my will. I really like Modwave and OPSix.werp wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 1:34 pmThe Korg 'native' software is currently half price. I happen to have downloaded the Wavestate demo this morning.CoolColJ wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 8:34 am Deepmind 12D - is bascially a modern 12 voice Juno 106 with extras. Can do dual stack for 6 dual DCO sounds.
With a mod matrix and good effects
So it's a good deal if you want that type of sound, but it's not a thick sounding VCO type synth
As a past owner of a Juno 106, it can't really replace a good monosynth.
It won't do the TB-303 thing
Not sure what type of music your making, as there are options in this price range for analog synths, but with a mod matrix and good effects, that narrows things down a lot.
---
For the other two options I would use software. Wavestate native is much easier to use than the hardware, but it's not a wavetable synth. Wavesequening. Modwave is what you want for Wavetables.
The note advance feature at 22:01 is how you can do paraphonic style effect sounding patches

Rekon I could thicken the Deepmind by getting a chorus pedal or some effects rack? I could chuck it on the Bass Station from time to time too.CoolColJ wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 8:34 am Deepmind 12D - is bascially a modern 12 voice Juno 106 with extras. Can do dual stack for 6 dual DCO sounds.

I make deep melodic techno/electro-ish/proggy stuff. Lots of bubbly arps and sneaky snarly analogy bass.

yeah an chorus pedal will help, as the Deepmind 12 doesn't have the Juno chorus, only a digital effect.
There is a Juno Chorus pedal by TC electronic

I read recently that the software versions are easier to use than the hardware.zerocrossing wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 3:06 pmI might check it out too, though I wasn’t that into the demo videos I’ve seen so far, but maybe I could bend it to my will. Might just be a decent sized colour screen over the small, rather uninspiring black and white thing.
That and the reports of lousy build quality put me off the hardware.
I'm tired of being insane. I'm going outsane for some fresh air.
