I’d also love to know how this compares to RBass or something like Culture Vulture. What piqued my interest is that you can feed midi notes into it, seems like an USP? Is it worth it?

The plugin requires online activation but can be run offline after activation.Caine123 wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 8:24 amthx so much, now im interested again, i try not to start new plugins with online DRM

Is there an upgrade path from Bass XL?
I bought or got is as a freebie (can't remember) at Plugin Boutique.
I don't think I ever had an account at Denise Audio.
I guess I'll wait a bit, so BA can sort this out.
Baby Denise or Denise, Baby! would be a great name for a company

I’ve bought it after a short test drive, the code BAFAM gave me another 10% off. It compares nicely to Dist TUBE-CULTURE and the like imho, and I like it better than RBass, which just sounds the same all the time. It’s an open question how often I’ll really use it in the future, but I feel it gives me another coloring option when designing bass.

guys im somehow confused.... so if i play a bass (sine wave) and add this plugin and play the notes C -> E-> G-> C for example. will this plugin add harmonics in the upper range automatically or doesnt it follow the notes?

You can use midi input to follow the notes, but otherwise it’s hitting the configured (fixed) frequency rangeCaine123 wrote: Wed Jan 10, 2024 7:24 pm guys im somehow confused.... so if i play a bass (sine wave) and add this plugin and play the notes C -> E-> G-> C for example. will this plugin add harmonics in the upper range automatically or doesnt it follow the notes?

here is Note A3 played

here is F3 played

so the harmonics get followed by note?
EDIT oh i see, it seems it does it but you set the frequency range where harmonics shall get generated correct?

In my recent testing it's a direct replacement for RBass with more control and improved sound, which I believe is due to the linear phase filters (vs minimum phase of Rbass altering the low-mids at the crossover) and controllable slopes, as well as oversampling which is fairly unnecessary but it's there.Fornicras wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 7:22 am Is this similar to Waves' RBass or MaxxBass, or it's something different?
RBass has a specific process:
1) Isolates low end with a low pass filter (high cut)
2) Waveshaper adds harmonics
3) Isolates those harmonics with a high pass filter (low cut)
4) Blends it back in parallel with the dry signal
As far as I can tell, Bass XXL is the only other plugin that does exactly this. I searched far and wide for a direct RBass alternative and this is it - nothing else came close.
No affiliation whatsoever - just my experience of searching for a viable alternative for RBass, so I don't have to install Waves Center bloat on my new PC for 1 plugin

@mogwaiboy: Never used RBass so I don't know if it behaves the same, but when I demoed Bass XXL I had a hard time to get decent amount of harmonics without making the signal much louder around the cutoff frequency. What kinda worked was to set the root intentionally an octave higher, so I wouldn't get too much low frequencies in the wet signal path.
However I haven't bought it because it didn't offer me enough control over the filters in both dry and wet signal path.I'm demoing bass mint at the moment which seems to work better for me, but unfortunately it doesn't have the midi note follow feature.
Edit: I wrote this because I still try to understand when I would use this plugin. The devs tried to explain it to me over at gearspace but apparently were annoyed by my questions at some point and basically told me "it's not for everyone".
