Use of the sampler portion of Halion 7 is forbidden by the rules regarding use of samples. However, is it permissible to use (say) both the FM and the Wavetable synthesis portions on a composition?
Seems permissible to me.
AAS Player is another case.
I don't see any reason you couldn't use multiple engines in AAS Player, but note the rule about commercial patches not being permitted. I think that would limit you to only what is available in Swatches.
I assume that Reaktor is not a synth, but if it could be considered as such, then wow!
You might have to choose your own limits here. Focusing on a single ensemble seems most in the spirit of OSC, but I'm sure you could bolt multiple ensembles into a custom multi-engine ensemble if you were motivated to do so. This makes me think back to rounds with VCV Rack, where some participants chose to limit themselves to a specific module or brand of modules for sound design. You could do the same kind of thing with any multi-engine synth if it feels good to you to do so.

In the same vein, I assume my Yamaha DGX 88-keys keyboard is out of the question as it uses "AWM stereo sampling technology" for the voicing - the sounds can't be modified except by e.g. pitch bend on say the saxophone patch?

Going back to my DX-11 will be hard making patches as per any 4-operator FM synth!!!

Thanks for your reply, and especially for the reminder about commercial patches.

Question RE: rules. I am planning on using Massive as never had a chance to use it really... I have pulled up first available links for some freebie presets for inspiration; nothing paid for, all free. Are these permissible to use? What does "Commercial" mean in "Commercial synth patches/soundbanks are not permitted"?

I understand "commercial" in this context to mean it is sold separately from the synth. Factory presets and freely available patches are permitted.

So I can't use the included one-shot waves for drums in Icarus?
