Klangformer presets are basically imports of the Virus presets as it was an emulation

Timewarp 2600 sounds good indeed. Problem is that they never supported Win10 even never mind 11. There are issues eg whenever you try to save a new patch it only allows numbers not text for the name. Shame it wasn't updated.

It’s not only about “mesmerizing the populace,” but in a synth like the 2600, it’s about being able to successfully get audio rate modulation to work with a lack of artifacts and get all the nonlinear analog distortion to also sound right. Some of this seems to be a matter of brute force, and can’t be easily done with older processors. Even with a plugin like Diva, they get the latter right, but at the expense of doing the audio rate stuff really well. Repro, OTOH, gets both right.eLawnMust wrote: Sat Jan 27, 2024 11:43 am Nice to see that at least someone else has figured out that 'old' does not equate to 'bad'. If more had the courage to test in such manner there would be much dismay about modern plugs other than they are inefficient compared to older plugs...
Along those lines you should also check out the Arppe2600va it's pretty damn good, free & old-

The GUI size is reasonable, I prefer smaller than that-
Recently rediscovered the Klangformer Synth which made it to public beta, It's pretty fantastic too for a 20 year-old Synth I really like the compact size-
And for a public beta came with a buttload of presets-
No folks if it sounded great back then it still sounds great now sure there were some krappy but that still stands today. Steinber-Wizoo XPhraze is never gonna sound bad because of age & will never be 'obsolete'. Same with first version ImpOSCar which sounds just as good as current, Just current has fancy browser & more presets & a few other options folks it's all about SELLING, not the sound... Mesmerizing the populace is a marketing tool>>>

OK then, I could see where it could be a problem for some but I do not have problems with 2600 sound in my old machines typically using very efficient XP 32bits with no A/V running or installed to mess things up. Being I also have a few 64bit machines too I see because of more powerful machines newer plugs use more resource which is not much of an accomplishment in my book as I can have big thick sound using older versions. There seems to be a 'monolithic' thinking to synths IE SynthMaster VS Diva. Here I have example using 4 instances of FreeSonic into 4 LFX-1310s all playing from one track all different presets & pans no matter one note or nine... Big sound for cheap CPU even more profound using 4 DIFFERENT synths. Sure it takes some time setting up but still easier than learning some super-complex synth...

Also in this case everything in pic is freeware, even the tracker>>>
There's been powerful synths for many, many years now & most moderns are way too over-modulated perhaps great for soundFX but so many patches not musical, Great for those who wanna just 'toy around' though...
